About Devil Black®
Devil Black is a ROSSITTIS exclusive name for a high-quality black hard rock from the Indian plutonic rock regions. Petrographically it is a dolerite — a basic igneous rock that is mineralogically and technically closely related to the gabbro family and is therefore consistently assigned to the gabbros in the international stone trade. Characteristic is a very dense, evenly deep black to dark anthracite ground with a fine crystalline mineral texture and no pronounced speckling — the slab image is calm, uniform and very flexible in planning terms. Compared with classic hard rocks carrying golden or white accents (Black Galaxy, Star Galaxy), Devil Black is a pure, unspeckled black. Geologically, Devil Black comes from the Indian hard rock production regions, where an entire family of black igneous rocks has been quarried for decades for the European and North American stone market. Dolerites and gabbros form through the slow solidification of basaltic magmas at greater depth in the Earth's crust — the slow cooling produces crystalline mineral textures of pyroxene, plagioclase and in part olivine. In dolerites the grain size is somewhat finer than in classic gabbros, but mineralogically and technically the behaviour is very similar, which is why both stone families are often grouped in the trade under “black granite”. The high mineral density and the low proportion of disturbed crystalline zones make Devil Black one of the most robust black dimension stones.
The technical values place Devil Black clearly in the hard rock class: high compressive strength, low water absorption well below 0.5 per cent, frost-resistant to DIN EN 12371, fully acid-resistant within the normal application range. This makes the material equally suitable for demanding kitchen worktops and heavily used floor surfaces as for permanent external applications with freeze-thaw loading and de-icing salt contact. Compared with Chinese black granites such as Padang Dark, Devil Black reads as somewhat deeper and denser in its black, with a finer grain texture; compared with South African Nero Impala or Zimbabwean Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe, the colour saturation is more intense and the slab image more even still. Compared with Black Galaxy or Star Galaxy, the typical golden mineral sparkle is absent — Devil Black is a pure, clear black without speckling.

Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.
Satin-honed
The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.
Eco Antik
The Eco Antik surface is flamed and then intensively brushed — the result is a more rustic, livelier look with a pronounced tactile quality. Recommended for kitchens as well as interior wall and floor claddings in which the material is meant to work as a characterful statement stone with a craftsman-like appeal.
Honed C220
A matte-gloss appearance created by fine honing with a C220 grit — the standard honed finish in the hard stone segment. A level surface, calm tonality, distinctly less mirror-like than polished. Slightly more care-intensive than a polish, yet easy to look after day to day; suited to everyday use on floor areas, stairs and wall cladding.
River finish
The surface is roughened by water pressure and then given a colour-enhancing treatment — the shade comes through more strongly than on the flamed-and-brushed variant. Recommended for outdoor areas, terraces and façade claddings that call for a level, slip-resistant surface with a powerful depth of colour.
Satin-honed, face side
The TOP version combines the brushing of the satin-finished surface with an additional colour-deepening treatment — the material appears more intense and slightly glossier than plain satin-finished, yet keeps the tactilely soft, gently relieved appeal. For projects that want to combine mattness with pronounced colour depth.
Flamed + brushed once
The surface is roughened by heat and brushed once to smooth sharp-edged mineral residues and remove loose material. The feel is somewhat gentler than purely flamed, it remains slip-resistant, and the colour is less intense than polished. The standard choice for outdoor areas, terraces and heavily used floor areas.
Care & fabrication
As an Indian hard rock of the gabbro family, Devil Black can be cleaned and maintained without difficulty over the long term. With its low water absorption and full acid resistance the material is very robust in everyday use — wine, lemon juice, vinegar or carbonated drinks leave no etch marks. For kitchen worktops, external paving and heavily frequented floor surfaces we nonetheless recommend a silane- or polysiloxane-based sealer as additional protection against strongly colouring substances such as red wine, coffee, oil and tomato sauce. Routine cleaning is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or mop; clear water alone is almost always sufficient for daily care. Avoid strongly alkaline heavy-duty cleaners and abrasive steel wool. Outdoors, Devil Black is frost-resistant and tolerant of de-icing salt — salt residues should be rinsed off with water in spring.
