Caesarstone® 2003 Concrete is a calm mid-grey solid-colour selection from the Classico line of the Israeli engineered quartz manufacturer Caesarstone. The polished slab shows a balanced, slightly warm-toned mid-grey base tone with only a very fine, even quartz mineral speckle — without veins, without clouds, without trowel marks. The slab belongs to the brand's original solid-colour line (2xxx) and not to the textured Concrete series (4xxx), despite the name “Concrete”. About Caesarstone® Quarz 2003 Concrete

Background. Caesarstone was founded in 1987 at Kibbutz Sdot Yam in Israel and is regarded as one of the pioneers of industrial engineered quartz slab production. The company produces its slabs by the Bretonstone® vacuum vibro-compaction process and has been one of the globally leading brands in this material segment for decades. The variant presented here, 2003 Concrete, comes from the brand's Classico line (2xxx coding), in which Caesarstone gathers its single-colour, calm selections without veining or cloud figure — not to be confused with the later textured Concrete series (4xxx coding) with trowel and cloud structures. Despite the name “Concrete”, 2003 remains a classic solid-colour product in design terms.

Material build-up. A classic Caesarstone quartz slab consists of around 90–93 % natural quartz (SiO₂), some 7–10 % polymer binder on a polyester resin basis as well as pigments and mineral additives. Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7 (compared with calcite marble at Mohs 3) — which makes engineered quartz slabs markedly more scratch-resistant, more acid-resistant and non-porous. In spring 2024, in parallel with the classic quartz line, Caesarstone brought the Mineral™ line to market, in which a large proportion of the crystalline quartz has been replaced by other mineral aggregates — this changeover is a direct response to the global discussion about the risk of silicosis during fabrication; the selection documented here, 2003 Concrete, corresponds to the historical quartz mix.

The 2003 Concrete variant. Concrete (within the solid-colour line) is one of the established mid-grey selections in the Caesarstone portfolio. The base tone is a balanced, slightly warm-toned mid-grey — not clinically cool, not pronouncedly warm, but a calm neutral grey shade with a subtle greige nuance. Distributed across the base tone is a very fine, densely spread quartz mineral speckle that gives the slab a subtle depth as the light falls. From medium distance the surface reads as a consistently mid-grey architectural panel; close up, the even fine dot pattern becomes apparent. The slab is deliberately conceived as a solid-colour selection: without veins, without clouds, without dramatic staging. The design objective is calm and repeatability, not the character of fair-faced concrete.

Format and fabrication. Caesarstone supplies the slabs in the standard format 306 × 144 cm as well as in the jumbo format 327 × 162 cm, in thicknesses of 2 and 3 cm; individual lines also in 1.2 cm and 0.6 cm (Caesarstone Slim) for wall claddings and furniture fronts. The slabs can be cut, profiled, drilled and edge-worked with diamond tooling. Standard edges are square, chamfered (V-chamfer, 45°), rounded (R3, R5) and executed profile edges such as bullnose, half-round or a mitred edge joint for 90° corner connections.

Thermal and chemical properties. Engineered quartz is markedly more acid-resistant than marble, because the quartz aggregates are themselves inert to acid and the polyester accounts for only a small proportion by volume. Even so, the following applies: highly concentrated acids (hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric acid) and aggressive industrial chemicals attack the binder. Heat tolerance extends to around 150 °C for short periods; hot pots, frying pans or baking trays must never be set down directly on the surface, because direct heat at individual points can cause discolouration or stress cracks. UV resistance is limited — the slab is clearly conceived as an internal material and should not be installed permanently in fully sunlit conservatories or open loggias.

Within the Caesarstone family, 2003 Concrete belongs to the calm solid-colour selections of the Classico line such as 2141 Snow (pure white), 1111 Vivid White (UV-brilliant white) and 2020 Cinder (warm greige) — all without veins or clouds, each with its own tonal position. Within that, Concrete occupies the mid-grey position. Important: despite the name “Concrete”, the slab does NOT belong to the characterful 4xxx Concrete series (with fair-faced concrete trowel marks as in 4033 Rugged Concrete or 712B Wet Concrete), but to the single-colour 2xxx line. Anyone looking for a powerful fair-faced concrete look with trowel structures is better served by 4033 Rugged Concrete; anyone who needs a calm, even mid-grey solid-colour slab without concrete staging will find in 2003 Concrete a timelessly restrained choice.

Caesarstone® Quarz 2003 Concrete is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

A glossy surface with the highest possible degree of colour intensity — the standard finish in the engineered stone and engineered quartz segment. Easy to care for in everyday use and resistant to common household acids. A prestigious choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and exposed surfaces with a classic high-gloss character.

Care & fabrication

Cleaning. In everyday use, warm water, a soft cloth or a clean mop and a neutral to slightly alkaline pH cleaner are sufficient. Suitable products are soapy engineered stone cleaners, mild all-purpose cleaners, mild washing-up liquid foam and special engineered quartz care products. Caesarstone recommends its own care products (Caesarstone Cleaner) — these are not obligatory, but they are well matched. Spilled liquids — wine, coffee, juices, oil — should be taken up promptly in everyday use.

Do not use. Concentrated acids (sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric acid), concrete and rust removers, paint strippers, oven cleaners, acetone, petrol, thinners, nitro cleaners and industrial cleaners set to a very strongly alkaline level are taboo — they can attack the polyester resin. Chlorine-based bleaches in high concentration are also to be avoided. Do without abrasive pads (steel wool, green scouring pads); scratching is undesirable on the polished surface.

Sealing. A classic natural stone sealer is not required — engineered quartz is dense and non-porous in itself, and water absorption is below 0.05 %. A sealer would tend to show on the surface as a haze.

Kitchen. 2003 Concrete is a classic kitchen material. Despite the high material hardness and acid resistance, the following applies: use chopping boards (knife marks can dull the polyester resin over time), use trivets for hot pots and pans — direct heat at individual points can cause local discolouration. On direct contact with a hot baking tray (above roughly 150 °C) there is a risk of stress cracks. On site, the dishwasher must not run in direct full contact beneath the slab — heat protection is standard practice. On the mid-grey slab, dark stains (red wine, coffee, berry juice) and water rings are visually far less conspicuous than on a solid white slab.

Bathroom. In the bathroom, 2003 Concrete can be used very well as a vanity top, wall cladding, bath surround and shower. Do not use anti-limescale sprays and limescale-dissolving sanitary cleaners in high concentration; in the shower area wipe standing water away promptly so that no limescale film builds up.

Floors and stairs. The finishes currently available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down this page. Dirt-trapping mats at the entrance reduce the carry-in of scratching particles.

Outdoors and frost. Not suitable for external construction. Polyester binder yellows under UV radiation, and freeze-thaw cycles can lead to micro-defects. Permanent installation in fully sunlit conservatories or open loggias is likewise not to be recommended — Caesarstone explicitly excludes external use and fully sunlit internal areas from the warranty.

Warranty and repair. In residential areas Caesarstone grants a lifetime warranty on material and manufacturing defects (“Caesarstone Forever”), on condition of fabrication and care to standard by certified specialist firms.
