Caesarstone® Quarz 4030 Oyster

Caesarstone® 4030 Oyster is an engineered quartz stone from the Israeli manufacturer Caesarstone, part of the Concrete series, with a calm, mineral mid-grey character. The polished or C400-honed slab shows a slightly warm mid-grey base tone with a fine, evenly distributed dark quartz mineral stippling and very discreet, soft sweep lines – stylistically an allusion to the inside of an oyster or to a calmly honed mid-grey exposed concrete. About Caesarstone® Quarz 4030 Oyster

Background. Caesarstone was founded in 1987 at Kibbutz Sdot Yam in Israel and is regarded as one of the pioneers of industrial engineered quartz slab production. The company produces its slabs in the Bretonstone® vacuum vibration compaction process and has for decades been one of the globally leading brands in this material segment. The variant presented here, 4030 Oyster, comes from the brand's Concrete series (4xxx coding), which in design terms is oriented towards raw, honed exposed concrete and industrial render characters.

Material composition. A classic Caesarstone quartz slab consists of around 90–93 % natural quartz (SiO₂), about 7–10 % polymer binder on a polyester resin basis as well as pigments and mineral additives. Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7 (compared with calcitic marble at Mohs 3) – which makes engineered quartz slabs considerably more scratch-resistant, more acid-resistant and non-porous. In spring 2024, alongside the classic quartz line, Caesarstone launched the Mineral™ line, in which a large proportion of the crystalline quartz has been replaced by other mineral aggregates – this changeover is a direct response to the global discourse on the risk of silicosis during fabrication; the selection documented here, 4030 Oyster, corresponds to the historical quartz mixture.

The 4030 Oyster variant. As a mid-grey tonal value, Oyster sits in the middle of the Concrete spectrum: lighter than the dark selections (4120 Raven, 4033 Rugged Concrete in some tonal batches) and darker than the light grey variants (4044 Airy Concrete, 4011 Cloudburst). The base tone is a slightly warm mid-grey with a delicate greige nuance – neither clinically cool nor pronouncedly warm. Distributed across the base tone is a fine, even quartz mineral stippling in darker greys as well as very discreet soft sweep lines and veils, which underline the exposed-concrete character without slipping into pronounced veining. From a medium distance the surface appears calm and continuous; at close range the fine industrial mineral texture becomes visible. The name “Oyster” refers to the calm, slightly mother-of-pearl-like shimmering inside of an oyster.

Format and fabrication. Caesarstone supplies the slabs in the standard format 306 × 144 cm as well as the jumbo format 327 × 162 cm, in thicknesses of 2 and 3 cm; individual lines also in 1.2 cm and 0.6 cm (Caesarstone Slim) for wall claddings and furniture fronts. The slabs can be cut, profiled, drilled and edge-worked with diamond tooling. Standard edges are square, chamfered (V-chamfer, 45°), rounded (R3, R5) and executed profile edges such as bullnose or mitred edge joints for 90° corner connections. Thermal and chemical properties. Engineered quartz is considerably more acid-resistant than marble, because the quartz aggregates are themselves inert to acid and the polyester makes up only a small volume fraction. Even so, the following applies: highly concentrated acids (hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric acid) and aggressive industrial chemicals attack the binder. Heat resistance extends to about 150 °C for short periods; hot pots, frying pans or baking trays must never be set down directly on the surface, because direct heat over points can cause discolouration or stress cracks. UV resistance is limited – the slab is clearly conceived as an interior material and should not be permanently installed in fully sunlit conservatories or open loggias.

From these we fabricate kitchen worktops (standard and island), washbasin tops, wall claddings (including kitchen splashbacks and bathroom walls), bar counters, reception desks, buffet and furniture tops, interior stairs with treads and risers as well as window sills. The mid-grey tone is particularly flexible in design terms: it combines well with light cabinet fronts (white, light grey, light oak), works as a light accent against dark walls and suits brass, bronze, Corten steel and matt wall paints.

Comparison. Within the Concrete series, 4030 Oyster lies in the neutral mid-grey range – lighter than 4120 Raven and 4033 Rugged Concrete, darker than 4044 Airy Concrete and 4011 Cloudburst. Against real exposed concrete, the slab remains calculable, ready to install immediately, can be made considerably thinner and has no carbonation or drying phase. Against dark natural materials (Pietra Serena, Bardiglio marble, slate), Oyster appears more controlled, more even and offers the acid resistance that natural stone does not deliver in kitchen use. Against porcelain with a concrete décor (Laminam, Florim), the slab remains warmer to the touch and less brittle, but is thermally and chemically somewhat less resilient overall.

Warranty and brand. Caesarstone offers the “Caesarstone Forever” lifetime warranty on its slabs in residential applications, with clearly defined care and fabrication conditions. The brand is established across Europe among architects, interior fitters and premium kitchen studios.

Our honest assessment. 4030 Oyster is a choice for clients and architects looking for a contemporary, balanced mid-grey engineered stone appearance that actively mediates between the poles of a light and a dark slab. The mid-grey tone is considerably more forgiving of water droplets and fingerprints than the dark 4120 Raven slabs, without the clinically sterile impression of a solid white variant. In contemporary kitchens, bathrooms and interiors with an industrial ambition, Oyster is a very practical premium choice for everyday use.

Caesarstone® Quarz 4030 Oyster is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

A glossy surface with the highest possible degree of colour intensity — the standard finish in the engineered stone and engineered quartz segment. Easy to care for in everyday use and resistant to common household acids. A prestigious choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and exposed surfaces with a classic high-gloss character.

Honed C400

A level, matt surface created by fine honing with C400 grit — it appears more restrained than the more colour-intense polished version and is somewhat more maintenance-intensive. A characterful matt alternative for modern kitchen islands and wall claddings where high gloss would be out of place.

Care & fabrication

Cleaning. In everyday use, warm water, a soft cloth or a clean mop and a neutral to slightly alkaline pH cleaner are sufficient. Soapy engineered stone cleaners, mild all-purpose cleaners, mild washing-up foam and special engineered quartz care products are suitable. Caesarstone recommends its own care products (Caesarstone Cleaner) – these are not essential, but well matched. Take up spilt liquids – wine, coffee, juices, oil – promptly in everyday use.

Do not use. Concentrated acids (sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric acid), concrete and rust removers, paint strippers, oven cleaners, acetone, petrol, thinners, nitro cleaners and very strongly alkaline industrial cleaners are off limits – they can attack the polyester resin. Also avoid chlorine-based bleaches in high concentration. Do without abrasive pads (steel wool, green scouring pads); scratching is undesirable on the polished surface.

Impregnation. A classic natural stone impregnation is not necessary – engineered quartz is inherently dense and non-porous, and water absorption is below 0.05 %. A sealant would tend to show on the surface as a veil.

C400 surface. The finely honed C400 texture reacts somewhat more sensitively to greasy films than the polished variant; isolated water droplets dry less smoothly. We recommend wiping dry promptly with a soft microfibre cloth and occasionally using a special engineered stone cleaner for matt engineered quartz surfaces.

Kitchen. 4030 Oyster is a classic kitchen material. Despite its high material hardness and acid resistance, the following applies: use chopping boards (knife marks can leave the polyester resin matt over time) and use trivets for hot pots and pans – direct heat over points can cause local discolouration. Direct contact with a hot baking tray (above about 150 °C) risks stress cracks. On site, the dishwasher must not run in full contact directly beneath the slab – heat protection is standard practice. On the mid-grey slab, dark stains (red wine, coffee, berry juice) and water rims are visually far less conspicuous than on a solid white or a dark 4120 Raven slab – in design terms Oyster is a practical choice for everyday use.

Bathroom. In the bathroom, Oyster can be used as a washstand, wall cladding, bath surround and shower. Do not use anti-limescale sprays and limescale-dissolving bathroom cleaners in high concentration, and wipe standing water away promptly in the shower area so that a limescale film cannot build up. Limescale rims show up on the mid-grey slab as lighter shadows, but are less conspicuous than on pure white or dark selections.

Outdoors and frost. Not suitable for external construction. Polyester binder yellows under UV radiation, and freeze-thaw cycles can lead to micro defects. Nor is it recommended for permanent use in fully sunlit conservatories or open loggias – Caesarstone explicitly excludes external use and fully sunlit interior surfaces from the warranty.

Which cleaners may I use?

Warm water, neutral to slightly alkaline stone care products, mild all-purpose cleaners and special Caesarstone care products are permitted. Concentrated acids, concrete and rust removers, paint strippers, oven cleaners and strong solvents such as acetone, petrol or thinners are off limits. Abrasive pads should be avoided.

What warranty does Caesarstone offer?
