Background. Caesarstone was founded in 1987 at Kibbutz Sdot Yam in Israel and is regarded as one of the pioneers of industrial engineered quartz slab production. The company produces its slabs in the Bretonstone® vacuum vibration compaction process and has for decades been one of the globally leading brands in this material segment. The variant presented here, 5141 Frosty Carrina, comes from the brand's 5 series, in which Caesarstone gathers its marble-inspired selections with veining – within it, Frosty Carrina occupies the lightest, most delicate position as the light Carrara sister of the somewhat more characterful 5000 London Grey.
Material composition. A classic Caesarstone quartz slab consists of around 90–93 % natural quartz (SiO₂), about 7–10 % polymer binder on a polyester resin basis as well as pigments and mineral additives. The veining is produced in the Bretonstone process using differentially pigmented mix batches, which are introduced into the mould in several layers and compacted under vacuum. Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7 (compared with calcitic marble at Mohs 3) – which makes engineered quartz slabs considerably more scratch-resistant, more acid-resistant and non-porous. In spring 2024, alongside the classic quartz line, Caesarstone launched the Mineral™ line, in which a large proportion of the crystalline quartz has been replaced by other mineral aggregates – this changeover is a direct response to the global discourse on the risk of silicosis during fabrication; the selection documented here, 5141 Frosty Carrina, corresponds to the historical quartz mixture.
The 5141 Frosty Carrina variant. In design terms, Frosty Carrina is one of the most delicate, lightest marble-look slabs in the Caesarstone portfolio. The base tone is a cool, almost pure white cream white – neither warm cream nor pronouncedly cold, but a balanced light natural tone. Distributed across the base tone are very fine, hazy light grey vein lines and subtle cloud structures that run across the surface like delicate traces of frost or the finest marble veins of a classic Bianco Carrara marble. Unlike the similarly conceived 5000 London Grey, which shows a somewhat more pronounced greige tone, Frosty Carrina remains brighter white and more discreet in its play of veins. The name “Frosty Carrina” refers to the cool, frosty, icy character in allusion to Carrara – not to a specific geographical natural marble source.
Format and fabrication. Caesarstone supplies the slabs in the standard format 306 × 144 cm as well as the jumbo format 327 × 162 cm, in thicknesses of 2 and 3 cm; individual lines also in 1.2 cm and 0.6 cm (Caesarstone Slim) for wall claddings and furniture fronts. The slabs can be cut, profiled, drilled and edge-worked with diamond tooling. Standard edges are square, chamfered (V-chamfer, 45°), rounded (R3, R5) and executed profile edges such as bullnose or a mitred edge joint for 90° corner connections. With an organically veined slab such as Frosty Carrina, particular care in slab selection pays off, because the fine vein courses should be deliberately coordinated with one another on multi-part workpieces.
Thermal and chemical properties. Engineered quartz is considerably more acid-resistant than marble, because the quartz aggregates are themselves inert to acid and the polyester makes up only a small volume fraction. Even so, the following applies: highly concentrated acids (hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric acid) and aggressive industrial chemicals attack the binder. Heat resistance extends to about 150 °C for short periods; hot pots, frying pans or baking trays must never be set down directly on the surface, because direct heat over points can cause discolouration or stress cracks. UV resistance is limited – the slab is clearly conceived as an interior material and should not be permanently installed in fully sunlit conservatories or open loggias.
The ROSSITTIS range. We carry 5141 Frosty Carrina as a polished large-format slab with stock depth. Comparison. Within the Caesarstone 5 series, Frosty Carrina is the most delicate, lightest Carrara variant. Stylistically related are 5000 London Grey (somewhat warmer greige, a more powerful play of veins) and 5151 Empira White (considerably more contrasting veins). Against genuine Bianco Carrara marble from the Apuan Alps, the Caesarstone variant remains more acid-resistant, more scratch-resistant and more calculable in its play of veins – the natural marble appears more classic, livelier, more individual. Against CTX BasicQuarz 1611 Frost White, Frosty Carrina is more characterful, with more distinctly drawn vein lines. Against porcelain with a similar décor (Laminam Calacatta lines, GEOLUXE Dionysos), the slab remains warmer to the touch and less brittle, but is thermally and chemically somewhat less resilient overall.
Warranty and brand. Caesarstone offers the “Caesarstone Forever” lifetime warranty on its slabs in residential applications, with clearly defined care and fabrication conditions. The brand is established across Europe among architects, interior fitters and premium kitchen studios.
Our honest assessment. 5141 Frosty Carrina is a timelessly delicate choice for clients and architects looking for a very calm, light Carrara character with discreet veining, without the dramatic staging or acid sensitivity of a natural marble. Anyone who needs a dramatic statement material with powerful veins is better served by the 5151 Empira White or 5100 Vanilla Noir selections.
