DIRESCO Quarz BU014 Belgian Sand is a technically highly developed mineral composite material from the DIRESCO Belgian collection — and one of the few engineered quartz materials on the European market that are explicitly approved for internal AND external applications. Characteristic is a warm dark beige base colour that shifts slightly towards taupe or light brown depending on the block, interspersed with fine cream and light beige vein clouds that produce a calm, evenly animated slab appearance. The colour palette comprises light brown, silver, beige, cream and taupe — a neutral, Mediterranean colour tone that can be combined very flexibly in planning terms with warm timber surfaces, light marble, ceramic or dark steel. DIRESCO is a Belgian manufacturer of mineral engineered quartz slabs based in Belgium. What is special about DIRESCO materials is the patented Bio-UV technology: whereas classic engineered quartz slabs (e.g. Caesarstone, Silestone) are based on petrochemical polymer resins, DIRESCO uses a plant-based bio-resin with additional UV stabilisers. The material consists of 93 per cent natural quartz granulate, bound by this bio-resin with UV stabilisation. Polished
A glossy surface with the highest possible degree of colour intensity — the standard finish in the engineered stone and engineered quartz segment. Easy to care for in everyday use and resistant to common household acids. A prestigious choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and exposed surfaces with a classic high-gloss character.
Velvet
The surface is brushed, much like a satin finish — softer minerals are removed and a subtle depth with a matte effect is created. The velvety soft feel is characteristic and design-led. Easy to maintain and suited to everyday use; an elegant choice for demanding kitchen and wall surfaces where a softly tactile appearance is wanted.
Care & fabrication
As a Bio-UV engineered quartz material, DIRESCO BU014 Belgian Sand is markedly easier to care for than most natural stones and also more robust than classic petrochemically bound engineered quartz. A sealer is not required — the material is non-porous and takes up practically no liquids. Routine cleaning is carried out with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner or a solution of warm water with a little washing-up liquid, applied with a soft microfibre cloth or sponge. Acid and alkali resistance in the pH range 3 to 10 reliably covers all normal household cleaners and food acids (wine, lemon juice, vinegar, tomato sauce). You should avoid aggressive solvents outside this pH range (strong industrial cleaners, stubborn paint strippers) and abrasive steel wool. Heat resistance lies at 160 °C on a dry surface — markedly higher than with many competing engineered quartz materials. Hot pots can be set down directly for short periods; with very hot pans straight from the oven, or with heat acting for longer, we nevertheless recommend trivets in order to protect the bio-resin bond in the long term. Outdoors, DIRESCO BU014 Belgian Sand is frost- and UV-resistant — rinse off de-icing salt residues in spring with clear water. A refreshing treatment as with natural stone is not required.

Belgian Sand or a natural limestone such as Crema Marfil — which suits better?
Both bring a similar warm Mediterranean beige look. A natural limestone such as Crema Marfil or Travertin Classico has a genuine material signature typical of natural stone with individual geological scatter, but is acid-sensitive, prone to staining and requires regular sealing. Belgian Sand offers the warm beige look in engineered quartz quality: acid-resistant (pH 3–10), stain-resistant, without sealing, with a reproducible slab appearance and full suitability for external use. For visible surfaces with a natural patina, natural limestone is the first choice; for heavily used kitchen worktops and outdoor applications, Belgian Sand is more practical.
How do I clean DIRESCO Belgian Sand?
Daily care with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner or warm water with washing-up liquid and a soft microfibre cloth. The material is chemically resistant in the pH range 3 to 10 — all normal household cleaners and food acids are unproblematic. Avoid only very aggressive industrial solvents outside this pH range and abrasive steel wool. A sealer is not required. Outdoors, rinse off de-icing salt residues in spring.
