Care and cleaning
Natural stone lasts — and with the right care it keeps its appearance for decades. The essentials at a glance.
Sealing
A sealer protects the stone from within without altering its appearance. Recommended after installation and then every one to three years depending on use. Colour-enhancing or colour-neutral sealers are available, depending on the effect you want. Particularly important for marble, limestone and travertine.
Stain removal
Act immediately — the sooner a spill is wiped up, the better. Never use acid on marble or limestone. For stubborn stains, use dedicated natural stone cleaners or poultice pastes. Oil stains on granite can be drawn out with a specialist paste.
Daily cleaning
Use pH-neutral cleaners — no vinegar, no lemon, no scouring cream. Clear water with a little maintenance cleaner is often enough. Microfibre cloths are ideal. On polished surfaces, use a soft cloth to avoid micro-scratches.
Outdoor areas
Treat moss and algae with a suitable growth remover — never use a pressure washer on polished stone. Check the frost resistance of the stone type (granite and quartzite: yes, marble: only conditionally). Do not use de-icing salt in winter — it can attack natural stone.
