Onyx Fantastico is not a quiet stone. Red, brown, cream and white run into one another in irregular fields, bands and cloudy transitions. This creates a very lively pattern that, depending on the slab, can read as almost painterly or nearly dramatic. Polished, the stone visibly gains in depth; backlit, it develops in addition a warm, luminous effect. At ROSSITTIS we carry Onyx Fantastico for interiors in which natural stone is planned as a defining design element.
The material comes from Mexico, above all from the Zacatecas area. It belongs to the group of onyx rocks and is thus a lime-bound, partly translucent decorative stone. Unlike robust hard rocks such as granite or quartzite, this is not about maximum tolerance in use, but about colour effect, translucency and individuality. That is precisely why Onyx Fantastico is used above all in prestigious interior areas and markedly more rarely in hard everyday zones.
For the planning you should treat Onyx Fantastico like a sensitive interior stone. Acids can attack the surface, edges and cut-outs demand clean construction, and heavily frequented working surfaces make sense only with a realistic set of expectations. Its strength lies less in technical hardness than in visual presence. Anyone using the material plans deliberately with character and with the care requirements of a genuine onyx.
At ROSSITTIS, Onyx Fantastico is available as a raw slab, as a backlit wall panel, vanity top, counter front, table top and as a special cut for furniture and interior fit-out. The stone works particularly well in bathrooms, bars, foyers, spa areas or high-grade living spaces. Because of the lively drawing, careful slab selection pays off, and with larger surfaces often a mirrored laying plan as well.
Our honest assessment: Onyx Fantastico is not a material for restrained minimalist rooms and not an untroublesome stone for everyday kitchen use. But if you are looking for warm depth, an effect of light and a decorative slab with a highly independent character, it is outstandingly strong in design terms.

Onyx Fantastico is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.
Polishing is the preferred finish for onyx — the mirror-smooth surface brings out the material's varied colour character in full. The highest possible colour intensity and deep light reflection. Onyx is acid-sensitive and softer against scratches than marble — recommended for wall cladding and designed visible surfaces, less so for worktops.
You should clean and care for Onyx Fantastico gently, as the surface is acid-sensitive and comparatively soft. An impregnation makes sense on vanity units, tables and decorative wall surfaces. Clean only with pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and soft cloths. You should avoid acids, scouring agents, intensely coloured stains left for longer periods as well as hard knocks on edges and cut-outs.
Yes, that is exactly where the material plays to its strengths. Because of the partial translucency, the colours and banding read considerably deeper and livelier when backlit.
Onyx Fantastico comes from Mexico, above all from the Zacatecas area. Multi-coloured onyxes with a red-brown, white and creamy drawing are won there.
That is possible, but only with clear expectations regarding care and sensitivity. Onyx reacts to acid and is less tolerant in everyday use than granite or quartzite. For decorative kitchen islands it is more interesting than for hard, continuous use.
Clean the stone with pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and keep the impregnation topped up regularly. Acids, scouring agents and aggressive bathroom or kitchen cleaners should be consistently avoided.
Onyx Fantastico reads as more translucent, more decorative and usually more dramatic. A red marble is often more compact in its pattern and more robust in use. The decision depends on whether you need more effect of light or more everyday tolerance.
It works most strongly on walls, counters, vanity units, fireplace surfaces and everywhere the slab is staged rather than merely used.
