CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio

CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio is an Italian large-format sintered porcelain from the ROSSITTIS house brand CTX BasicKeramik® with a soft creamy ivory ground tone and a gently flowing horizontal onyx layering — a contemporary reproduction of the classic Iranian-Pakistani ivory onyx in 12 mm porcelain. Full UV, heat and acid resistance for indoors AND out.

Large-format sintered ceramic from the ROSSITTIS house brand CTX BasicKeramik® with an ivory onyx look design. The RES marking identifies the Italian upstream manufacturer. Fully sintered ceramic of natural clays, feldspars, quartz and mineral pigments, pressed and sintered at over 1,200 °C. Water absorption < 0.1 %. Mohs hardness 7–8, fully heat-, acid-, scratch-, frost- and UV-resistant, food-safe. Design model: genuine Onice Avorio (calcite onyx or marble onyx) — formed by hydrothermal calcium carbonate precipitation in karst caves, with classic deposits in Iran (Yazd), Pakistan (Balochistan) and Mexico. NOT a genuine natural onyx, but a porcelain reproduction with all the technical advantages of the material class: unlike genuine onyx it is fully acid- and heat-resistant, scratch-resistant and suitable for exterior use. The true translucency for backlit wall claddings is not reproduced by the porcelain. CTX BasicKeramik® belongs to the same house brand family as our CTX BasicQuarz® (engineered quartz).

Finishes

CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

The only glossy surface available in ceramic — the material is fired and then polished. High gloss with a pronounced colour intensity and mirror effect. Unlike polished natural stone, polished ceramic is the most sensitive surface in this material class — micro-scratches can become visible under intensive use.

Naturale matt

A standard finish in the matte ceramic segment — the original surface as it comes out of the kiln. Level in appearance, but somewhat rougher to the touch than polished. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and stain-resistant — the most everyday-capable ceramic finish for kitchen worktops, wall cladding and floor areas.

Care & fabrication

CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio is a fully sintered ceramic with a water absorption of < 0.1 % and needs no impregnation.

Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a neutral multi-purpose cleaner. Afterwards wipe over with clear water and polish dry with a soft cloth — on the pale ivory ground tone, splashes of hard water otherwise remain visible as fine hazes.

Acid resistance: complete. The central advantage over genuine Onice Avorio: lemon juice, vinegar, wine, tomato sauce, coffee, cola or limescale remover are uncritical on RES Onice Avorio and leave no etch marks. Genuine onyx marble would develop matt etch spots immediately under the same conditions.

Heat resistance: complete. Hot pans, pots, baking trays or casserole dishes can be set down on the surface straight from the cooker — without a trivet.

Scratch resistance: very high (Mohs hardness 7–8). Steel knives and usual kitchen tools produce no scratches. Genuine onyx, by contrast, has a Mohs hardness of only 3 and is extremely prone to scratching — the porcelain reproduction is far more robust here.

UV stability: complete. Direct sunlight outdoors causes no discolouration — RES Onice Avorio is equally suitable for outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds and south-facing façades.

Stain treatment: all common food stains can be removed with warm water and a neutral cleaner. On the pale ivory ground tone, dark stains are particularly visible — prompt cleaning is therefore more advisable than with darker materials.

Do not use: extremely aggressive acids (hydrofluoric acid HF — glass industry), coarse steel wool, diamond files.

Bathroom and vanity top: pH-neutral bathroom and glass cleaners are unproblematic. Splashes of limescale remover and limescale rings at the tap can be removed without difficulty — unlike with genuine Onice Avorio, where limescale remover would leave etch spots immediately.

Outdoors: regular cleaning of pollen, bird droppings, algae growth and de-icing salt residues. Freeze-thaw cycles are uncritical.

Repair: porcelain is very robust, but with a direct impact on the edge the material can chip or break. Damage to an edge as a rule requires replacing the affected slab element or a proper build-up.

Frequently asked questions

What is Onice Avorio?

Onice Avorio (Italian for “ivory onyx”) is a sought-after translucent dimension stone — a “calcite onyx” or “marble onyx”, formed by hydrothermal calcium carbonate precipitation in karst caves. Classic deposits are in Iran (particularly Yazd province — the world's most important source of onyx), Pakistan (Balochistan) and Mexico. Characteristic is the warm ivory-cream ground tone with a fine horizontal layering, often with a translucent effect.

What is CTX BasicKeramik®?

CTX BasicKeramik® is a ROSSITTIS house brand for porcelain. We develop the range together with selected Italian premium ceramics manufacturers and distribute the designs under our own brand name with our own fabrication options, thicknesses and supply terms. The strategy allows us competitive prices at premium porcelain quality.

Is this genuine onyx or a reproduction?

A porcelain reproduction. CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio is a fully sintered large-format ceramic with an onyx look after the classic Iranian-Pakistani model — NOT a genuine natural onyx. Compared with genuine onyx, the porcelain offers concrete advantages: acid resistance (genuine onyx is very acid-sensitive), heat resistance, scratch resistance (genuine onyx has a Mohs hardness of only 3), full suitability for exterior use. Genuine translucency for backlit wall claddings, however, is to be had only with genuine onyx.

What is CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio made of?

Mineral raw materials — natural clays, feldspars, quartzes and pigments. Pressed under high pressure into a slab and sintered at over 1,200 °C. Water absorption < 0.1 %, comparable with other premium porcelains (Laminam, Lioli Porcelain, Florim).

Which thicknesses and finishes are available?

In current ROSSITTIS stock we carry RES Onice Avorio in 12 mm thickness with polished and naturale matt finishes. Available on request: other thicknesses (typically 6, 12, 20 mm) and alternative surface finishes.

Is RES Onice Avorio suitable for backlit wall claddings?

With reservations. Porcelain is not as translucent as genuine onyx and therefore does not deliver the same dramatic effect of light shining through when backlit. For the highest demands in staging light, genuine onyx remains the more suitable material. For a sufficiently effective onyx staging with the full robustness of the material, the porcelain is by contrast the more robust choice.

Is RES Onice Avorio suitable for exterior applications?

Yes, completely. Porcelain is UV-stable, frost-resistant, acid-resistant and heat-resistant — the ideal material class for outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, façades and terrace tables. Genuine Onice Avorio would hardly be practicable outdoors — here the porcelain is clearly superior.

How much material do you currently have in stock?

We currently carry 22 large-format slabs of CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio in 12 mm thickness with polished and naturale matt finishes. For larger projects and continuous slab sequences we recommend a prompt reservation.

What does CTX BasicKeramik® RES Onice Avorio cost?

The price depends on the format, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
