About Mocca Creme-Medium Grain
Mocca Creme Medium Grain is the somewhat more striking expression of the well-known Portuguese Mocca Creme type. The colour world moves between beige, cappuccino and a pale brown, joined by the material's typical linear layering. In the medium-grained grade this picture is somewhat more distinct and livelier than with very fine batches, but remains calm overall and fit for architecture. That is precisely what makes the stone interesting for larger floor and façade surfaces.
The stone comes from Portugal, from the area around Porto de Mós, and is read in the market as a marble, or a limestone marble. Geologically it is a limestone; in design terms, however, it is used as a warm, classic architectural stone. Compared with Moleanos, Mocca Creme looks more strongly layered and somewhat warmer. Compared with Crema Marfil it is matter, more building-stone-like and less oriented towards pure interior luxury.
For the Medium Grain grade the typical Mocca Creme properties apply: around 2,515 kg/m³ bulk density, around 2.34 % water absorption, around 92.7 MPa compressive strength and around 19.6 MPa flexural strength. Frost resistance is given; at the same time the material remains acid-sensitive because of its calcitic build-up. The higher water absorption shows clearly that Mocca Creme should not be read as a dense hard rock. For façades, floors, stairs and bathrooms that is well manageable, but in kitchens or exterior areas with a heavy load of soiling it needs care and an honest expectation of use.
Honed, Mocca Creme Medium Grain is usually most convincing, because the linear structure then looks calm and natural. Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish for marble and limestone — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced depth to the veining. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be matte-gloss in places. Acid-sensitive — wine, lemon and vinegar leave etch marks after prolonged contact.
Satin-honed
The surface is brushed — softer minerals are selectively removed, creating a subtle depth and a matte appearance. Strongly veined limestones in particular gain a characterful look and feel this way. The more matte finish conceals small etch marks better than a polish and stands up better to everyday use on heavily used interior surfaces.
Honed C220
A matt appearance created by fine honing with C220 grit — the level surface looks calm, with a somewhat more intense colour effect than C120; light honing marks are possible. More maintenance-intensive than polished, but more scratch-resistant and matt-elegant — a popular choice for modern floors and wall claddings.
Care & fabrication
Mocca Creme Medium Grain should be impregnated well, above all on floors, stairs, in bathrooms and on façades. Because of the higher water absorption, that makes later cleaning and care markedly easier.
For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, soft brushes and little water are suitable. Acidic cleaners, limescale removers and aggressive cement haze removers are unsuitable.
In kitchens or on counter tops, oil, coffee, wine and lemon juice should not be left to act for long. The linear structure does not automatically conceal every stain, which is why regular routine cleaning matters.
For exterior surfaces, structural drainage and an appropriate surface finish matter more than strong chemistry. Matt and textured finishes age markedly more convincingly here than high gloss.
