C-C stands for Cross Cut. The travertine block is sawn across the original direction of sedimentation — the slab therefore shows the typical cloudy, mottled slab image with irregularly distributed pores. By contrast, V-C (Vein Cut) shows clear horizontal layer banding. Both variants come from the same block and material; the cutting angle determines the visual effect.

Travertin Beige C-C is a classic Italian freshwater sedimentary limestone (vacuolar limestone) from the Tivoli region east of Rome — Bagni di Tivoli has been the main production region since Roman antiquity. In international trade the synonyms Travertino Romano Classico, Travertino Tivoli, Travertino Classico, Roman Travertine Classic and Tivoli Travertine are current. The stone belongs to the world's best-known and historically most significant travertine family.

Bulk density 2,475 kg/m³, water absorption 0.89 %, compressive strength 90.7 MPa, compressive strength after frost 81.7 MPa (confirmed frost-resistant), flexural strength 12.5 MPa, Knoop microhardness 1,305 MPa, linear thermal expansion 4.6 × 10⁻⁵ K⁻¹, Mohs hardness 4.5–5. Important: as a limestone, travertine is acid-sensitive — wine, lemon juice, vinegar or sanitary cleaners leave etch marks on untreated surfaces.

Travertine naturally contains characteristic pores — small cavities from its original formation in hot springs. In the 'filled' version these pores are filled with a colour-matched limestone mortar before final finishing — the slab is then fully smooth. In 'unfilled' the pores remain openly visible as an authentic stylistic element. Filled is easier to maintain and more practical for bathrooms or bar counters; unfilled is more expressive and more coherent for rustic Mediterranean schemes.

Conditionally suitable, with clear restrictions. With a Mohs hardness of 4.5–5, travertine is considerably more sensitive than granite or quartzite — it is not fully cut- and scratch-resistant and is acid-sensitive. Wine, lemon juice or vinegar leave etch marks immediately. For intensively used professional kitchens we recommend alternative hard stones. For a warm, characterful designer kitchen with a deliberate material effect and careful maintenance, however, Travertin Beige C-C can be highly effective — particularly for Mediterranean or wabi-sabi schemes with a conscious acceptance of patina.

Yes, traditionally a first choice for pool areas in the Mediterranean style. Travertin Beige C-C is confirmed frost-resistant (strength after frost 81.7 MPa versus 90.7 MPa before = 9.9 % loss). The natural porosity provides good slip resistance and the pale base tone stores little solar heat — pleasant underfoot. For pool surrounds, a tumbled or unfilled surface is optimal. In regions with salt loading, an annual refresh of the sealer is advisable.

Travertin Beige C-C calls for deliberate care: first installation with a two-coat silane or polysiloxane sealer, daily care with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Acidic cleaners (vinegar, citric acid, sanitary cleaners, descalers) are STRICTLY to be avoided — they cause immediate etch marks. Cola, wine, tomato sauce and citrus fruits should likewise be taken up immediately when spilled. Refresh the sealer every 3–5 years (every 2–3 years in heavily used areas).
