Amazon Green

Geologically it is a Brazilian hard rock from the Precambrian shield — the database entry classifies the material as a serpentinite (with an alternative granite classification in the raw form), which points to serpentine-bearing mineral components. Serpentinites are metamorphic rocks formed by hydrothermal or metamorphic processes from ultramafic or basic magmatic parent rocks. The intensely dark green tonality results from serpentine-, chlorite- and epidote-rich mineral components that are strongly enriched in the main mass. The high-contrast warm bronze to copper-brown veining arises from secondary iron oxide mineralisation that penetrated tectonic fracture zones and runs through the rock as pale veining. This mineralogical composition gives Amazon Green its characteristic material signature with a dramatic dark green and bronze colour composition.

Visually, Amazon Green is defined by an exceptionally dramatic, almost tropical and mineral material signature. Across a deep dark green to anthracite groundmass, high-contrast warm bronze to copper-brown veining spreads out, running through the slab as pale branchings — like petrified veins or frozen movements of lava. Subtle silvery mica accents and occasional darker mineral points complete the material signature. Slab variation is considerable and is intrinsic to the stone. Book-matched installation — mirroring adjacent slabs — produces particularly impressive, almost surrealist symmetrical large-scale patterns with the full dramatic effect of the green and bronze composition.

Technically, Amazon Green behaves like a classic Brazilian hard rock, with documented values: bulk density 2690 to 2740 kg/m³, compressive strength 178 to 188 MPa (peak value 188 MPa, high as is typical for granite), flexural strength 14.85 MPa, water absorption of 0.2 %. These values qualify the stone for demanding internal and external applications including kitchen worktops, heavily walked floor areas, paving and facade cladding. Like all granite-equivalent hard rocks, Amazon Green is largely resistant to household acids such as lemon juice, vinegar, wine and cola — a central advantage over marbles and limestones. Freeze-thaw resistance is DNSA-confirmed.

In interior fit-out, Amazon Green is a statement material for dramatically green, classically warm and tropically inspired architecture. Classic applications are kitchen worktops in designer kitchens calling for a dark green statement tonality, wall claddings, floor areas in entrance halls and living spaces, stair treads, skirtings, window sills and bar counters. The deep dark green tonality with its dramatic warm bronze veining harmonises particularly with warm timber fittings in walnut, mahogany or dark oak, with brass, bronze and copper accents, with muted warm earth tones and with restrained black. Outdoors, Amazon Green is used as facade cladding, plinth slabs, stairs, paving and pool surrounds — the frost and acid resistance typical of granite qualify it without restriction for central European climates.

An important note on nomenclature: the marketing name “Amazon Green” is used on the international market by various suppliers for different materials. Alongside the classic Verde Ubatuba variant, the name is also used for “Amazonita Granit” from Paraíba (a different material with a lower compressive strength of around 74 MPa and a density of around 2610 kg/m³). When referring to a specific delivery, the exact designation of origin should be verified — the Amazon Green treated here is the high-grade Verde Ubatuba variant with strong technical robustness.
