About Basaltina®

Basaltina is one of those dark stones that work not through strong figuring but through composure. The material shows a deep dark grey to anthracite, a fine grain and a distinctly quiet, technical surface. That makes it an excellent fit for modern architecture in which materiality is deployed clearly and sparingly. Façades, external paving, wall cladding, platforms, stairs and interior surfaces benefit from precisely this mix of restraint and presence. Unlike a lively granite or a black marble, this is about calm, density and an almost graphic precision.

Geschliffen C220

Mattes Erscheinungsbild durch feinen Schliff mit Körnung C220 — die ebene Oberfläche zeigt die typische Basaltporösität (Mikroporen sind sichtbar). Klassische Variante im Basaltsegment, pflegeleichter als geflammt, säurebeständig als Silikatgestein. Wahl für moderne Bodenflächen und Wandverkleidungen.

Gespachtelt+geschliffen

Die typischen Basalt-Mikroporen werden mit einer speziellen Spachtelmasse gefüllt und somit verschlossen, anschließend wird die Oberfläche fein geschliffen. Mattes, ebenes Erscheinungsbild bei pflegeleichter, geschlossener Oberfläche — die alltagstauglichste Basalt-Veredelung für Wohn- und Küchenbereiche.

Care & fabrication

Basaltina is easy to look after, but should be sealed after installation, particularly on heavily used external and floor surfaces. The very low water absorption of 0.06 % makes cleaning and maintenance easier still.

For cleaning and maintenance, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and a soft cloth or mop are sufficient. On textured surfaces, regular removal of dirt matters more than aggressive deep cleaning.

Avoid strongly abrasive products and unnecessarily aggressive specialist chemistry. With Basaltina the issue is not chemical sensitivity but films of dirt and residues on dark textured surfaces.

Outdoors, good drainage, sparing use of de-icing salt and regular cleaning help to keep the surface clear and even in the long term.

Pietra Serena appears softer and classically Tuscan, Basaltina denser, darker and more technical. For modern external architecture, Basaltina is often the more robust and clearer choice.
