About Calacatta Viola Originale
Calacatta Viola Originale is one of those marbles that dominates a room immediately. The material shows a pale white to ivory ground crossed by strong violet, wine-red and partly brown-violet veins. This figuring is not fine and restrained as in classic Carrara, but deliberately expressive. That is precisely why Calacatta Viola is so often specified where natural stone is meant to be more than a surface — a design statement: in bathrooms, on kitchen islands, as a vanity top, as a fireplace surround or as a back wall panel in high-quality interiors.
The stone comes from Italy and belongs to the Calacatta family of the Apuan Alps. Petrographically it is a marble, that is, a metamorphosed limestone. Calacatta Viola Originale is therefore not a technical hard stone but a classic decorative interior marble, with all the qualities and limits of that rock type. Compared with purely white Calacatta grades it appears markedly livelier, warmer and more exclusive. Compared with ceramics in a marble look, it delivers the genuine depth and irregularity that only natural stone produces.
Hard laboratory values are barely available publicly for this particular variety. For dense white marble, however, bulk densities around 2,700 kg/m³ and low water absorption are typical. What decides matters in practice is less the individual figure than the logic of the material: Calacatta Viola looks luxurious and precise, but remains acid-sensitive. Lemon juice, vinegar, cosmetic products or strong cleaners can etch the surface. In kitchens and bathrooms the material therefore works best where users deliberately choose the character of marble and do not expect the carefree behaviour of quartzite or ceramic.

The honest assessment: Calacatta Viola Originale is not a marble for neutral background surfaces. It demands nerve, clean selection and a clear decision in favour of character over restraint. Those who can handle that get one of the most striking Italian marbles currently available. Those looking for maximum robustness should stay with ceramic or quartzite.

Care & fabrication
Calacatta Viola Originale should be sealed carefully after fabrication. Sealing helps with cleaning and maintenance, but it does not remove the acid sensitivity inherent to a marble.
For cleaning and maintenance, use pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, clear water and a soft microfibre cloth. On pale surfaces, residues should not be allowed to dry on, so that neither streaks nor dull patches develop.
Avoid vinegar-based cleaners, citrus cleaners, bathroom cleaners, limescale removers and abrasive products. Wine, coffee, oil, make-up and lemon juice should not be left to act on worktops and vanity tops.
If you want to keep Calacatta Viola looking good in the long term, the sealer should be refreshed regularly depending on use. In a heavily used kitchen area this matters more than in prestige wall applications.
