GEOLUXE® Aliveri Pyrolithic is a large-format porcelain slab from the Asian premium manufacturer GEOLUXE in a dark layered-stone look. The polished slab shows a deep, cool anthracite ground tone crossed by fine, horizontally running lineations in darker black and lighter mid-grey tones – stylistically an allusion to the Greek Aliveri marble from the island of Euboea, a dark grey-anthracite slate-like marble with a characteristic horizontal bedding. About GEOLUXE® Aliveri Pyrolithic

Background. GEOLUXE® is an Asian premium brand for large-format porcelain slabs (sintered stone), produced by the Philippine Wing Tai group. Unlike the European market leaders Laminam (Italy), Neolith (Spain), Dekton (Spain/Cosentino) and SapienStone (Italy), GEOLUXE has positioned itself since its market launch in 2018 above all through the design depth of the slab look and through the format. The brand markets its slabs under the term “Pyrolithic Stone” – its own marketing designation for high-temperature-sintered mineral slabs based on natural clays, feldspar aggregates and mineral pigments.

Material composition and manufacture. A GEOLUXE Pyrolithic slab consists of around 100 % mineral raw materials – feldspar, quartz, clay minerals and pigments – without polymer binders. The mixture is compacted in a mould by a roller-press or pressing process, provided with decorated pigment layers for the line structure and then sintered at temperatures above 1,200 °C in a tunnel kiln. In this sintering the mineral particles partly fuse into a closed crystalline mineral structure – the end product is a fully mineral, sintered-through slab with no resin content. This yields decisive technical advantages over engineered quartz: water absorption below 0.1 %, very high heat resistance (hot pots can be set down directly), full UV resistance and thus suitability for external use, frost resistance and almost complete acid resistance.

The Aliveri Pyrolithic variant. In design terms the grade quotes the Greek Aliveri marble – a dark grey-anthracite slate-like marble from the mining district of the same name on the Aegean island of Euboea (Evia), known for its characteristic horizontal bedding structure and listed in the architectural market under names such as “Aliveri Grey” or “Grigio Aliveri”. The GEOLUXE slab transfers this layered look into a controlled porcelain composition: a deep, cool anthracite ground tone, finely crossed by horizontal lineations in darker black and lighter mid-grey tones that look like sediment layers or fine metamorphic bedding. From a middle distance the slab appears calmly dark throughout with subtle movement; close up you discover the fine layered structure. The look differs clearly from the dramatic veined marble-look slabs of the competition – Aliveri lives from a horizontal bedding course rather than from branching vein networks.

Format and thicknesses. GEOLUXE supplies the Pyrolithic slabs in several large formats – the standard format is around 320 × 160 cm and 160 × 80 cm. The thicknesses are clearly graded at 6, 12, 20 and 30 mm; the large slab in 12 mm in particular has established itself for interior façades, wall cladding and furniture, while for kitchen worktops and bar counters the 12 or 20 mm variant (with a double edge / mitre edge for a visibly thicker look) is standard. With a linearly structured slab like Aliveri, particular care in slab alignment pays off – the layer lines should run in a consistent direction on site, or be staged in a deliberate 90° alternation.

Interior application. Aliveri Pyrolithic is the first choice for kitchen worktops with a cool, dark statement feel, in which a calm layered structure rather than a dramatic vein pattern is wanted. It is also outstandingly suited to vanity units, wall cladding, bathroom walls, furniture tops (dining tables, coffee tables, sideboard fronts), reception desks, bar counters and large-format interior floors. The slab is heat-resistant (hot pots can be set down briefly), pore-free (no sealing required) and acid-resistant (wine, lemon and tomato leave no etch marks).

External application. Here lies the real technical advantage over engineered quartz: porcelain is UV-stable, frost- and weatherproof and can be used as a back-ventilated façade panel, external wall cladding, pool surround and outdoor kitchen worktop. The GEOLUXE Pyrolithic line is explicitly released for such applications. On a dark slab like Aliveri, external surfaces look particularly refined and powerful; sunlight does not change the tonal value, and the slab remains colour-fast over the long term.

Comparison. Against genuine Aliveri marble, the porcelain remains acid-resistant, heat-resistant, frost- and UV-proof – the natural stone is livelier and more individual, but more sensitive (Aliveri, as a calcite/dolomite stone, is acid-sensitive and less robust under permanent water exposure). Within the GEOLUXE family, Aliveri (cool grey, horizontal) stands in contrast to Eramo (warm dark brown, horizontal) and to Dionysos (bright white, flowing). Against dark engineered quartz slabs (Caesarstone Raven, Vanilla Noir) the slab is more heat-resistant (hot pots can be set down directly) and fully UV-stable (suitable for external use), but somewhat cooler and more brittle to the touch.

Honest assessment. Aliveri Pyrolithic is a statement choice for clients and architects looking for a cool, dark layered look with high technical resilience. The slab works particularly strongly as an island or façade element, where the horizontal line structure develops depth. Anyone looking for a classic marble vein play or a calm single-colour slab should reach for other GEOLUXE grades.

Poliert

Care & fabrication

Cleaning. In everyday use, warm water, a soft cloth or a clean mop and a neutral to mildly alkaline pH cleaner are sufficient. Mild all-purpose cleaners, mild washing-up foam and all commercially available sanitary and kitchen cleaners without hydrofluoric acid (HF) are suitable. The porcelain is almost completely acid-resistant – even vinegar, citric and hydrochloric acid practically do not attack the slab. Take up spills promptly, because on the dark surface every dried trace can remain visible as a lighter veil; the material itself, however, is pore-free and therefore stain-proof.

Do not use. Hydrofluoric acid (HF) and fluoride-containing cleaners are the only class of substance that can genuinely attack porcelain – they occur practically only in industrial glass and stone cleaners and are not relevant in the household. Even though the slab is hard: steel wool and strongly abrasive pads can cause the finest dulling on the polished variant, which shows up on the dark slab as lighter lines.

Sealing. Not required – porcelain is dense and pore-free in itself, and water absorption is below 0.1 %. A sealer would tend to show up on the surface as a veil and is superfluous.

Dark slabs – particular care notes. On a dark porcelain, water rings, limescale marks, fingerprints and dull abrasion marks are especially clearly visible as lighter shadows. We recommend prompt drying off with a soft microfibre cloth after every use; on the polished variant in particular this pays off. Kitchen. In kitchen use, Aliveri Pyrolithic is technically almost unbeatable: hot pots can be set down directly for a short time (the slab is unaffected well beyond 200 °C), acids such as vinegar, wine, lemon and tomato leave no traces, and there are no cut marks from polyester resin damage because there is no polyester resin. Even so, we recommend chopping boards (knife blades blunt more quickly on the hard slab) and trivets when cooking as standard practice.

Bathroom. In the bathroom the slab is fully usable as a vanity unit, wall cladding, bath surround and shower. Anti-limescale sprays and all commercially available sanitary cleaners are approved. In the shower area, wipe off standing water promptly – on the dark slab white limescale rings are especially clearly visible.

Outdoors and frost. Fully suitable. The slab is UV-stable, frost- and weather-resistant and can be used as a back-ventilated façade panel, external wall cladding, pool surround and outdoor kitchen worktop. The surface finishes currently in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down.

Scratches and repair. Porcelain is very hard (around Mohs 7) and therefore considerably more scratch-resistant than most natural materials. Deeper damage cannot simply be re-polished – repair is carried out by replacing the affected workpiece. Particular care with edges and cut-outs is therefore required during fabrication; mitre joints should be executed by experienced specialist firms with special adhesive and precise workshop preparation – with Aliveri, additionally observing the continuous line run at the edges.

How does porcelain differ from engineered quartz (Caesarstone, Silestone)?

Engineered quartz contains roughly 7–10 % polyester resin as a binder; porcelain is entirely mineral with no resin content. This gives porcelain three important advantages: higher heat resistance (hot pots can be set down directly), full UV resistance (suitable for external use) and almost complete acid resistance. Engineered quartz, on the other hand, remains warmer to the touch and less brittle at the edge joint.

What slab formats and thicknesses does GEOLUXE offer?

Standard formats are around 320 × 160 cm and 160 × 80 cm, in thicknesses of 6, 12, 20 and 30 mm. For kitchen worktops and bar counters 12 or 20 mm is standard, frequently with a mitred edge joint for a visibly thicker look. For wall cladding and façades the thinner thicknesses (6–12 mm) are established.

Is Aliveri Pyrolithic suitable for kitchen worktops?

Yes – without restriction. Acids (wine, lemon, tomato, vinegar) leave no traces, hot pots can be set down directly for a short time (tolerant above 200 °C), the slab is pore-free and very scratch-resistant. Chopping boards are nevertheless sensible – knife blades blunt more quickly on the hard slab.

Is the slab suitable for external surfaces, façades and pool surrounds?

Yes – that is one of the central advantages over engineered quartz. Porcelain is UV-stable, frost- and weather-resistant and can be used as a back-ventilated façade panel, external wall cladding, pool surround and outdoor kitchen worktop. On external surfaces we recommend the honed or satin-honed variant.
