LAMINAM® Pietra Piasentina Grigio

LAMINAM® Pietra Piasentina Grigio is a large-format porcelain slab from the Italian premium manufacturer Laminam, from the natural-stone-based IN-SIDE collection. The slab shows a medium grey dimension stone ground tone with characteristic fine white calcite veins and a subtle sedimentary depth structure – stylistically a precise quotation of the famous Friulian Pietra Piasentina dimension stone from the province of Udine. At ROSSITTIS we work Pietra Piasentina Grigio into heat- and acid-resistant kitchen worktops, islands, interior floors, stairs, wall cladding, bathroom fit-outs, external floor coverings, pool surrounds and back-ventilated façade systems with a classic Italian dimension stone effect.

About LAMINAM® Pietra Piasentina Grigio

Background. Laminam® is the Italian premium brand for large-format porcelain slabs, founded in 2001 in Fiorano Modenese (province of Modena) as a subsidiary of the System group. The “IN-SIDE” collection within the Laminam programme is the manufacturer's natural-stone-based dimension stone line – with precise quotations of classic Italian natural stones such as Pietra di Cardoso, Pietra di Savoia, Otta phyllite and – within this family – Pietra Piasentina. “Pietra Piasentina Grigio” is the medium grey tonal variant with a fine dimension stone feel.

Finishes

LAMINAM® Pietra Piasentina Grigio is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Naturale matt

Cleaning. In everyday use, warm water, a soft cloth or a clean mop and a neutral to mildly alkaline pH cleaner are sufficient. Mild all-purpose cleaners, mild washing-up foam and all commercially available sanitary and kitchen cleaners without hydrofluoric acid (HF) are suitable. The porcelain is almost completely acid-resistant – even vinegar, citric and hydrochloric acid practically do not attack the slab. Take up spills promptly, because on the medium grey surface dried drops with dark pigment (coffee, red wine, black tea) can be left behind as visible veils; the material itself, however, is pore-free and therefore stain-proof.

Do not use. Hydrofluoric acid (HF) and fluoride-containing cleaners are the only class of substance that can genuinely attack porcelain – they occur practically only in industrial glass and stone cleaners and are not relevant in the household.

Sealing. Not required – porcelain is dense and pore-free in itself, and water absorption is below 0.1 %.

Naturale matt surface. The naturale matt surface reacts somewhat more sensitively to smear films and visible wiping streaks than a polished variant; isolated water drops dry off less smoothly. We recommend prompt drying off with a soft microfibre cloth.

The surface finishes currently in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down. A classic external surface with high slip resistance – ideal for external floors, pool surrounds, stairs and areas with water contact.

Medium tonal values – care notes. On a medium grey porcelain, wiping marks remain less visible than on very dark or very bright slabs – a practically relevant advantage of this tonal class for heavily used kitchen worktops and entrance floors.

Kitchen and bathroom. In kitchen and bathroom use, technically almost unbeatable: hot pots can be set down directly for a short time, acids such as vinegar, wine, lemon and tomato leave no traces, and anti-limescale sprays and all commercially available sanitary cleaners are approved.

Floor and façade. One of the classic domains of this grade is external floor coverings, pool surrounds and façade systems. The flamed variant is slip-resistant and can therefore be used in certified fashion in areas with water contact.

Outdoors and frost. Fully suitable. The slab is UV-stable, frost- and weather-resistant and can be used as a back-ventilated façade panel, external wall cladding, pool surround and external floor covering.

Scratches and repair. Porcelain is very hard (around Mohs 7) and therefore considerably more scratch-resistant than most natural materials. Deeper damage cannot simply be re-polished – repair is carried out by replacing the affected workpiece.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of material is LAMINAM® Pietra Piasentina Grigio?

A large-format porcelain slab (sintered stone) from the Italian premium brand Laminam (System group, Modena), from the natural-stone-based IN-SIDE collection. Mineral raw materials (feldspar, quartz, clay minerals, pigments) are compacted without polymer binders in a pressing process and sintered at over 1,200 °C in a tunnel kiln. Stylistically the “Pietra Piasentina Grigio” variant quotes the famous Friulian Pietra Piasentina natural dimension stone from the province of Udine.

What does the name “Pietra Piasentina” refer to?

Pietra Piasentina is one of the most important Friulian dimension stones – petrographically a sedimentary carbonate breccia from the Eocene formation. The deposits lie around Torreano in the province of Udine in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia (north-eastern Italy). NOT to be confused with the city of Piacenza in Emilia-Romagna – the name “Piasentina” derives from a regional Friulian designation. Pietra Piasentina has been used in Friulian architecture since antiquity.

What exactly does Pietra Piasentina Grigio look like?

A calm medium grey with subtle warm underlays as the ground tone, crossed by characteristic fine whitish calcite veins in an irregular, often diagonally running distribution, complemented by a subtle sedimentary depth structure with fine layer lines. Stylistically a precise quotation of the Friulian Pietra Piasentina natural dimension stone.

What slab formats and thicknesses does Laminam offer for the Pietra Piasentina line?

Standard formats are 1,200 × 3,000 mm and 1,620 × 3,240 mm, in the thicknesses Laminam 5 (5 mm), Laminam 5+ (5.5 mm), Laminam 12+ (12 mm) and Laminam 20+ (20 mm). ROSSITTIS carries Pietra Piasentina Grigio in 12 and 20 mm thickness.

Is Pietra Piasentina Grigio suitable for external surfaces, façades and pool surrounds?

Yes, completely – that is one of the central fields of application for this grade, above all with the fiammato/flamed variant. Porcelain is UV-stable, frost- and weather-resistant and can be used as a back-ventilated façade panel, external wall cladding, pool surround and external floor covering.

Which cleaners may I use?

Permitted are warm water, all neutral, alkaline or mildly acidic cleaners, mild all-purpose cleaners and all commercially available sanitary and kitchen cleaners. The slab is almost completely acid-resistant. Out of the question are only hydrofluoric acid (HF) and fluoride-containing cleaners – these are not relevant in the household.

Pietra Piasentina Grigio or genuine Friulian Pietra Piasentina natural dimension stone?

Pietra Piasentina Grigio (porcelain) is more even, more predictable, acid-resistant and fully UV-stable – the rational choice for external applications, façades and heavily used interior surfaces with minimal care. Genuine Friulian Pietra Piasentina natural dimension stone appears geologically more authentic with individual batch variation and a natural dimension stone feel, but it is acid-sensitive (calcitic) and requires sealing.

Pietra Piasentina Grigio or other medium grey porcelain grades?

Within the porcelain market, Neolith Piasentina, Optimum Surfaces (e.g. Lotus Grey), CTX BasicKeramik (the Atlantis line, from the ABK Group) and Caesarstone Lioli offer similar Pietra Piasentina dimension stone grades, each with its own material interpretation. Within the Laminam IN-SIDE collection, Laminam Pietra Piasentina Grigio is the specifically Friulian, dimension-stone-oriented choice.
