About Lilas

Lilas comes from Belgium and belongs to the family of Belgian limestones, which are known as hard limestones and which, despite belonging to the limestone group, show an above-average density and compressive strength. The name “Lilas” (French for lilac) refers to the characteristic, slightly violet-blue shimmer component that distinguishes this stone from neutral grey limestones.

Belgian limestones have been used in European architecture for centuries – as paving stone, façade material, stair stone and in prestigious interiors. The combination of high density, good workability and a timeless colouring makes Lilas relevant in contemporary architecture as well.

Finishes

Lilas is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish for marble and limestone — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced depth to the veining. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be matte-gloss in places. Acid-sensitive — wine, lemon and vinegar leave etch marks after prolonged contact.

Care & fabrication

You should impregnate Lilas after laying and clean it regularly with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner. Acidic substances such as lemon juice, vinegar or descalers are harmful to limestones and must be removed immediately. For daily care a soft microfibre cloth with clear water is sufficient.
