Limestone from Germany

Anröchter Dolomit

Anröchter Dolomit is a yellow-green to beige-grey German limestone with a matt, traditional building-stone effect. At ROSSITTIS it is used for façades, paving, stairs and external works wherever a classic German building material with regional character is called for.

About Anröchter Dolomit

Anröchter Dolomit is one of the defining German building stones for façade and external architecture. Its colouring ranges from yellow-green and beige-grey through to muted earthy tones; the pattern appears fine, matt and very constructional. It is precisely this restraint that makes the stone so strong: it does not dominate, but gives architecture substance and regional credibility. For façades, plinths, paving and stairs that is a very classic profile.

The stone comes from Germany, from Anröchte in North Rhine-Westphalia. Despite the historical trade designation, petrographically it is a slightly dolomitised limestone. On the market, however, Anröchter Dolomit is read above all as a regional building stone. Compared with Portuguese limestones it appears more traditional and more porous; compared with granite, markedly softer and more craftsmanlike. That is frequently exactly what is wanted.

Finishes

Anröchter Dolomit is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Geschliffen C220

On floors, façades and particularly in moisture-exposed areas, Anröchter Dolomit should be carefully planned and, where necessary, sealed. This makes cleaning and maintenance easier and reduces the take-up of dirt and moisture.

For cleaning and maintenance, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and soft brushes or cloths are suitable. Acidic cleaners, descalers and aggressive cement haze removers are unsuitable for this limestone.

Because of the higher porosity, organic soiling and moisture exposure should not be underestimated. On horizontal external surfaces in particular, regular removal of dirt is sensible.

In winter, functioning drainage and constructionally correct junctions matter more than chemistry. Despite its frost resistance, the stone demands clean execution.

Frequently asked questions

Is Anröchter Dolomit suitable for a kitchen?

Only with considerable restraint. With about 2.3 to 4.0 % water absorption, high porosity and clear acid sensitivity, Anröchter Dolomit is not an ideal stone for a kitchen worktop.

Which finishes are available for Anröchter Dolomit?

The surface finishes currently held in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page. A high-gloss polish is not part of the actual material logic of this stone.

Where does Anröchter Dolomit come from?

Anröchter Dolomit comes from Anröchte in North Rhine-Westphalia and is one of the best-known regional German building stones.

How do I clean Anröchter Dolomit correctly?

For cleaning and maintenance you should use pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and consistently avoid acidic products. On external surfaces, regular removal of dirt helps particularly.

Is Anröchter Dolomit frost-resistant?

Yes. The stone is regarded as frost-resistant and is very frequently used in Germany for façades, paving and external works.

Anröchter Dolomit or limestone from Portugal?

Anröchter Dolomit appears more regional, more porous and more traditional. Portuguese limestones often appear more homogeneous and somewhat more international in expression.
