Luna Marron

Luna Marron is an Indian “soft quartzite” with a warm mocha-brown, creamy ground tone and a fine, organically natural stone structure. Compared with classic premium quartzites such as Taj Mahal or Azul Imperial, this “soft quartzite” family shows greater sensitivity to scratching and higher water absorption — a warm, elegant choice for designed interiors with a more conscious approach to care.

About Luna Marron

Luna Marron comes from the Indian quartzite deposits and belongs to a particular subgroup: the so-called “soft quartzites”. This material class comprises materials such as Luna Marron, Luna Grey and Luna Wave, which are petrographically classified as quartzites but show considerably softer properties compared with classic premium quartzites (Taj Mahal, Azul Imperial, Patagonia, Macaubas).

The geological background: Luna Marron is a metamorphosed quartzite with a relatively low degree of metamorphism — the original sandstone was transformed under milder pressure and temperature conditions, which leads to a less densely fused quartz grain fabric. Because of this lower fusion of the quartz, the material properties remain closer to a dense sandstone than to a high-performance quartzite. In concrete terms this means: higher water absorption (more susceptible to staining), greater sensitivity to scratching and somewhat reduced acid resistance compared with classic quartzites.

In the slab pattern Luna Marron shows a warm mocha-brown, creamy to cappuccino-coloured ground tone with a fine, organically natural stone figure and subtle sedimentary layering. The surface reads as warm, homely and atmospheric — an elegant material for designed interiors with a Mediterranean-warm or earthy-natural atmosphere. In places somewhat darker zones of movement or lighter sedimentary lines are visible, giving the surface a subtle effect of depth.

For the application this means: Luna Marron is a good choice for wall claddings, vanity tops in the bathroom, table surfaces and prestigious interior fit-out — where the warm natural stone character is to the fore and an awareness of care is present. For intensively used kitchen worktops the soft quartzite family is not the first choice: here classic quartzites (Taj Mahal, Azul Imperial), granites or porcelain show better robustness. With careful maintenance and consistent impregnation, however, Luna Marron can also be used well in the kitchen area — what is decisive is that acidic splashes (wine, lemon, tomato sauce) are wiped away immediately.

For anyone comparing Luna Marron with other materials: within the soft quartzite family, Luna Grey (a cooler, grey soft quartzite) and Luna Wave (with a character of movement) are related. Among the classic premium quartzites, Taj Mahal (lighter, creamy-warm) is closer in colour; Azul Imperial offers an entirely different blue-grey character with better robustness. Anyone who needs the warm mocha-coloured tonality in a more robust form should switch to a warm brown granite or to porcelain with a travertine or marble look.

Our honest assessment: Luna Marron is a special choice for projects that work with warm, elegant natural stone and bring along the material knowledge to deal with the soft quartzite class. Anyone who needs maximum freedom from care for intensive kitchen applications should reach for classic high-performance quartzites or granite. But anyone who values the warm cappuccino-coloured natural stone character of this special Indian quartzite will find here an atmospherically warm material with genuine stone character.

Finishes

Luna Marron is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish for quartzite — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced sense of depth. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be satin-gloss in places. As a silicate rock it is fully acid-resistant and scratch-hard — ideal for kitchen worktops and feature surfaces.

Satin-honed

The surface is brushed — softer minerals are removed in a targeted way, creating a slight depth and a matt appearance. Veined quartzites gain a special character in this way. Acid-resistant and scratch-resistant, easy to care for in daily use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.

Care & fabrication

Luna Marron is a soft quartzite with greater sensitivity to scratching and higher water absorption than classic premium quartzites. More care-intensive than Taj Mahal or Azul Imperial — a correspondingly more conscious approach is required.

Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, clear water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.

Do not use: acidic cleaners (including mild ones such as those containing citrus juice), steel wool, coarse scouring pads.

Impregnation: recommended directly after installation and then, depending on the loading, every 6–12 months. With soft quartzites the impregnation is considerably more important than with classic quartzites — it prevents stains from penetrating the more open-pored structure.

Kitchen worktop: possible but not the first choice — as a class, soft quartzites are more care-intensive. Wipe acidic splashes (wine, lemon, tomato sauce, vinegar) away immediately, do not let them dry on. Hot pans can be set down directly, but do any cutting exclusively on a separate chopping board.

Vanity top and bathroom: well suited to prestigious bathroom applications. Under no circumstances remove limescale rims at the tap with a descaler — soft quartzites too react to concentrated acids.

Stain treatment: wipe fresh splashes away immediately. Where stains have penetrated non-impregnated areas, work with special natural stone stain removers.

Repair: scratches and matt patches can be evened out by professional re-polishing.

Luna Marron or Taj Mahal?

Taj Mahal is a classic premium quartzite with considerably higher robustness, lower water absorption and better acid resistance — the right choice for intensive kitchen applications. Luna Marron is warmer in tone and more atmospheric, but more care-intensive — for wall claddings and vanity tops with an elegant material expression it is a very coherent choice.
