Geologically, Luna Wave is a quartzite from the Indian hard rock producing regions. Quartzites are formed by the high-pressure, high-temperature metamorphism of original sandstone sediments, in the course of which the sand grains weld together into a compact crystalline quartz matrix. Mineralogically, pure quartz dominates at more than 90 per cent; the warm beige to honey-coloured movement veins arise from iron oxide impregnation along former sedimentary bedding paths. Care & fabrication
As an Indian quartzite, Luna Wave can be cleaned and cared for without difficulty. With its low water absorption and full acid resistance, the material is very robust in everyday use — wine, lemon juice, vinegar or carbonated drinks leave no etch marks. Directly after installation we nevertheless recommend a sealer on a silane or polysiloxane basis as additional protection against strongly colouring substances such as red wine, coffee, oil and tomato sauce — with a pale material like Luna Wave, sealing is particularly worthwhile, since stains would stand out more visually on a cream-white ground. Ongoing cleaning is with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or mop; clear water alone is almost always sufficient for daily care. You should avoid strongly alkaline deep cleaners and abrasive steel wool. Outdoors, Luna Wave is frost-resistant and tolerant of de-icing salt. We recommend refreshing the sealer every three to five years, more often on kitchen worktops.
