Optimum Surfaces Green Moon

Optimum Surfaces Green Moon is an Italian large-format porcelain slab from the Del Conca Group portfolio with a complexly animated sage-green to silvery quartzite and moonstone appearance and creamy white mineral inclusion accents. The porcelain technology delivers full UV, heat, acid and frost resistance for kitchen worktops, wall claddings, furniture surfaces and external applications — with a dramatic green depth of colour.

Large-format porcelain from the Italian Optimum Surfaces portfolio (a brand of the Del Conca Group, Faenza, Emilia-Romagna). A composite material of natural clays, feldspars, quartzes and mineral pigments, pressed under high pressure into large formats of 1,840 × 3,300 mm and fully through-sintered at over 1,200 °C. Water absorption < 0.1 %. Mohs hardness 7–8, fully heat-, acid-, scratch-, frost- and UV-resistant, food-safe. Available ex works in thicknesses of 7, 12 and 20 mm. The “Green Moon” design approach takes its bearings from the pictorial idea of a moonstone-like shimmering green quartzite — stylistic models are Brazilian green quartzites (Amazon Green, Patagonia Green), green onyx variants and serpentinites. NOT a natural stone, but a technical porcelain with a natural-stone-inspired appearance.

Finishes

Optimum Surfaces Green Moon is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Soft Touch

A standard finish in the matte ceramic segment — after firing, the material is additionally brushed. It feels distinctly gentler than naturale matt, with a warm, softly tactile appearance. Easy to maintain and stain-resistant — a design-led choice for demanding visible surfaces and living concepts.

Care & fabrication

Optimum Surfaces Green Moon is a fully through-sintered porcelain with a water absorption of < 0.1 % and needs no impregnation. Its care is the simplest of all material classes for engineered surfaces.

Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a neutral multi-purpose cleaner or a mild glass cleaner. Afterwards wipe over with clear water and polish dry with a soft cloth — otherwise light limescale films remain visible on the green Soft Touch surface.

Acid resistance: complete. Unlike on marble, lemon juice, vinegar, wine, tomato sauce, coffee, cola or descalers are uncritical on Green Moon and leave no etch marks. For heavier soiling, concentrated specialist porcelain cleaners can be used.

Heat resistance: complete. Hot pans, pots, baking trays or casserole dishes can be set down on the surface straight from the hob — without a trivet. Porcelain is the only material class that offers this carefree heat resistance (engineered quartz and all marbles have considerable restrictions here).

Scratch resistance: very high. Mohs hardness 7–8. Steel knives and normal kitchen tools produce no scratches. A chopping board is not required, but is recommended in order to protect the knives (not the slab), since the hard porcelain blunts the blades more quickly.

UV stability: complete. Direct solar radiation outdoors causes no discolouration — Green Moon is equally suitable for outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, terrace tables and south-facing façades.

Stain treatment: all common food stains can be removed with warm water and a neutral cleaner. Stubborn stains (dried-on meat juices, turmeric, red wine) can be treated briefly with special porcelain cleaners or a mild baking powder and water paste and then rinsed off.

Do not use: extremely aggressive acids (hydrofluoric acid HF — relevant to the glass industry, not relevant in households), coarse steel wool, diamond files — these materials could theoretically damage the polish, but are not to be expected in a normal household.

Outdoors: regular cleaning of pollen, bird droppings, algae growth and de-icing salt residues — without any special protective measures. Freeze-thaw cycles are uncritical (water absorption < 0.1 %).

Repair: porcelain is very robust, but a direct impact on the edge can cause the material to chip or break — unlike stone, this is difficult to repair. Edge damage as a rule requires replacing the affected slab element or a proper build-up of the edge. Careful fabrication and protective edges are important detailing matters.

Frequently asked questions

Is Optimum Surfaces Green Moon a natural stone or a ceramic?

Porcelain. Green Moon is a fully through-sintered large-format ceramic, produced from natural mineral raw materials (clays, feldspars, quartzes, pigments) which are pressed under high pressure and sintered at over 1,200 °C. The material is NOT a natural stone, but it represents the most robust material class for architecture and kitchen worktops — with properties that genuine natural stones cannot reach in this robustness (full UV stability, acid resistance, heat resistance, scratch resistance, frost resistance).

Who is Optimum Surfaces?

Optimum Surfaces is an Italian porcelain brand of the Del Conca Group (founded in 1981 in Faenza, Emilia-Romagna region). The Del Conca Group is one of the most tradition-rich Italian ceramic manufacturers and produces in the same ceramics region as Laminam, Florim, ABK and Atlas Concorde. Optimum Surfaces is the group's large-format porcelain brand.

Which natural stone model is reproduced with Green Moon?

The design approach takes its bearings from the pictorial idea of a moonstone-like shimmering green quartzite. Stylistically close geological models are Amazon Green and Patagonia Green (Brazilian quartzites), green onyx variants and some serpentinites. The porcelain reproduction captures the fluid movement structures and the mineral, creamy inclusion accents of these natural rocks.

Which thicknesses and sizes are available?

Ex works, Optimum Surfaces produces Green Moon in the large format 1,840 × 3,300 mm in thicknesses of 7 mm (wall and furniture applications), 12 mm (the classic worktop and vanity top thickness) and 20 mm (robust external applications). In the ROSSITTIS stock we currently hold 12 mm and 20 mm with a Soft Touch finish.

Is Green Moon suitable for external applications?

Yes, fully. Porcelain is UV-stable, frost-resistant (water absorption < 0.1 %), acid-resistant and heat-resistant — the ideal material class for continuous internal-external applications such as outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, façades, terrace tables and external surfaces with a southern or western exposure.

Do I need a trivet for hot pans?

No, not necessarily. Green Moon is fully heat-resistant — a pan can be set down on the surface straight from the hob without the material taking any harm. Porcelain is the only material class that offers this carefree heat resistance.

Green Moon or a genuine green quartzite?

Genuine green quartzites (Amazon Green, Patagonia Green) are geologically authentic and unique in every slab, but expensive on the market, limited in stock availability and demanding when it comes to sorting the veining. Green Moon delivers a comparable pictorial idea in a reproducible porcelain quality with larger slab formats and full suitability for external use. For intensive applications with a high robustness requirement, the porcelain choice is usually the more sensible solution.

How much material do you currently have in stock?

We currently hold 22 large-format slabs of Optimum Surfaces Green Moon in 12 mm and 20 mm thickness with a Soft Touch finish. Standard slab format 1,840 × 3,300 mm — one of the largest porcelain formats available. For larger projects and continuous internal-external applications we recommend reserving promptly.

What does Optimum Surfaces Green Moon cost?

The price depends on the format, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
