Optimum Surfaces Lotus Grey

Material build-up and manufacture. An Optimum Surfaces porcelain slab consists of around 100 % mineral raw materials – feldspar, quartz, clay minerals and pigments – without polymer binders. The mix is compacted in a pressing process, given decorated pigment layers for the surface appearance (multi-layer printing for the depth of the veins) and then sintered at temperatures above 1,200 °C in a tunnel kiln. During this sintering the mineral particles partly fuse into a closed crystalline mineral structure – the end product is a fully mineral-sintered slab with no resin content. This produces the typical advantages over engineered quartz: water absorption below 0.1 %, very high heat resistance (hot pans can be set down directly), full UV resistance and therefore suitability for exterior use, frost resistance and almost complete acid resistance.

The Lotus Grey version. The ground tone is a calm mid-grey to pale grey building stone grey with subtly warm undertones, which looks markedly warmer than cool anthracite grades. Across the surface runs the feature that defines the design: a fine, naturalistically flowing network of veins in whitish calcite tones, interspersed with subtle ochre to honey-coloured accent veins that give the slab additional warmth and depth. The veining runs fluidly and irregularly, with individual more powerful diagonals and many finer branchings – stylistically an elegant marble composition. From a medium distance the surface works as a calm, elegant grey marble picture with subtle movement; close up one discovers the fine pigmented depth of the vein runs.

Formats and thicknesses. Optimum Surfaces supplies the slabs in large format. ROSSITTIS carries Lotus Grey in thicknesses of 12 mm (standard for interior floors, exterior floor coverings and wall claddings) and 20 mm (standard for kitchen worktops and heavily used floor applications).

Thermal and chemical properties. Unlike engineered quartz, there is no polyester resin here – which means the typical weaknesses fall away: Lotus Grey is heat-resistant (hot pans can be set down directly; the slab is unaffected well beyond 200 °C), almost completely acid-resistant (wine, lemon, tomato, vinegar leave no traces) and fully UV-stable (suitable for exterior use). Frost and weather resistance are given. Water absorption: practically zero (below 0.1 %, as is typical of porcelain).

ROSSITTIS range. In competitive comparison with other porcelain brands, the Laminam Calacatta lines, the Neolith Lotus grades, Dekton (Cosentino group) and Caesarstone Lioli offer similar marble-look grades, each with its own interpretation of the material. Compared with genuine veined marbles such as Fior di Pesco Carnico (Italian, Friuli) or Breccia Imperiale, the porcelain version remains predictable and acid-resistant – the natural marbles look geologically more authentic with individual batch variation, but are acid-sensitive (calcitic) and need an impregnation. An honest assessment. Lotus Grey is the ideal choice for any application in which a calm, elegant mid-grey marble character with a fine network of veins and full technical resilience is wanted. The grade works particularly strongly as a kitchen worktop and island in modern kitchen concepts, as a wall cladding with bookmatching in elegant living spaces, as a bathroom fit-out in luxurious wellness concepts and as an interior floor in prestige residential and commercial spaces.
