Roma Deep Blue is one of the most expressive materials in the Brazilian quartzite range — a Precambrian metamorphic hard stone with a dramatic, almost painterly material signature. Characteristic is a cream-white to pale grey ground effect, run through by large soft blue-grey mineral fields and high-contrast warm brown to copper-coloured river veins that traverse the slab picture like branching watercourses. This combination of calmly flowing pale areas and powerful, high-contrast vein patterns makes every slab an unmistakable unique piece — the movement and the weighting of colour vary from block to block, and that is what constitutes the authentic character of this material. Geologically, Roma Deep Blue is a Precambrian quartzite from the Brazilian hard rock producing regions — Brazil is among the world's most important producers of exotic quartzites with a dramatic material signature. Quartzites form through high-pressure and high-temperature metamorphism of original sandstone sediments, in the course of which the sand grains weld together into a compact crystalline quartz matrix. The pale areas consist predominantly of white to cream-coloured quartz; the blue-grey mineral fields additionally contain clay minerals and traces of haematite; the warm brown veins are late iron oxide impregnations along movement joints, which give the material its river-like character. The trade name “Roma Deep Blue” points to the imperial blue-grey mineral fields, which unfold the greatest design effect in the polished slab picture.
Technically, Roma Deep Blue behaves like a classic high-quality Brazilian quartzite: high compressive strength, low water absorption, frost-resistant to DIN EN 12371, acid-resistant within the normal range of application. Quartzites are among the most robust and easiest to care for dimension stones in existence — their compact quartz structure makes them very hard, dense and chemically resistant. Unlike visually similar pale marbles with a dramatic vein pattern (e.g. Calacatta Vagli or Statuario Venato), Roma Deep Blue is not acid-sensitive — wine, lemon juice, vinegar or carbonated drinks leave no etch marks. That makes the material a very coherent choice for heavily used kitchen worktops and exposed surfaces where a marble-like look is wanted.

Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish for quartzite — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced sense of depth. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be satin-gloss in places. As a silicate rock it is fully acid-resistant and scratch-hard — ideal for kitchen worktops and feature surfaces.
Satin-honed
The surface is brushed — softer minerals are removed in a targeted way, creating a slight depth and a matt appearance. Veined quartzites gain a special character in this way. Acid-resistant and scratch-resistant, easy to care for in daily use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.
Care & fabrication
As a Brazilian quartzite, Roma Deep Blue is easy to care for and clean over the long term. With low water absorption and full acid resistance the material is very robust in everyday use — wine, lemon juice, vinegar or carbonated drinks leave no etch marks. An impregnation on a silane or polysiloxane basis after laying gives additional protection against strongly colouring substances such as red wine, coffee, oil and tomato sauce — with a pale material with white and cream-coloured ground areas the impregnation is particularly worthwhile, because stains would stand out more visually on a pale ground. Daily cleaning with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or mop. Avoid strongly alkaline deep cleaners and abrasive steel wool. Outdoors frost-resistant (optimal under a roof). Refresh the impregnation every three to five years.
