Azul Macaubas is one of those materials that create instant recognition. The base colour ranges from white-grey through ice blue to markedly stronger blue lines, joined — depending on the batch — by coarser white inclusions or a fine rosy shimmer. It is precisely this mixture that makes the stone so sought after: it reads as cool, pale and luxurious without tipping into the sterile. For kitchen islands, vanity tops, wall compositions and exclusive bathroom surfaces this is a very strong material.
The stone comes from Brazil and is carried in the trade as a quartzite. That matters, because at first glance the look often recalls a decorative marble, while the technical character is markedly more robust. Compared with Calacatta materials, Azul Macaubas works less with gold or grey and more with blue. Compared with sodalite it reads as paler, more linear and more architectural.
Reliable public laboratory values are not always fully available for this designation. Typical for quartzite, however, are bulk densities around 2,695 kg/m³, water absorption around 0.23 % and compressive strengths around 165 MPa. Care & fabrication
As a quartzite, Azul Macaubas is robust, but should nonetheless be well sealed in kitchens and bathrooms. That makes dealing with grease, limescale and coloured liquids easier.
For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners are sufficient. Pale and blue surfaces benefit when coffee, oil, limescale and cosmetic residues are not left standing for long.
Avoid hard impacts on narrow webs, cut-outs and edges. The issue here is usually not chemical loading but clean fabrication and use of the exposed zones.
