As an Iranian prasinite, Verde Borgogna is a decorative material with moderate robustness. Mohs hardness is 5-6, water absorption 0.3 %. One important qualification: because of the calcite content in the white veins, Verde Borgogna is acid-sensitive — wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola or acidic bathroom cleaners can leave visible etch marks on the white calcite veins. On the green and burgundy mineral areas the stone is more robust.
For all applications, a silane- or polysiloxane-based sealer is mandatory. On polished interior surfaces we recommend refreshing the sealer every 2-3 years, and annually in heavily used areas. Sealing protects against deep penetration by acids, oil, grease and pigments — particularly important for the calcareous white veins.
Daily care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft cloth or microfibre mop. Clear warm water is usually sufficient. Consistently avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar-based cleaners, cement haze removers and strongly alkaline products — with Verde Borgogna this is particularly important because of the calcite content. Verde Borgogna is not recommended for kitchen worktops. The acid sensitivity of the calcite veins, the moderate hardness (Mohs hardness 5-6) and the heterogeneous material structure make the stone unsuitable for intensive cooking use. Wine, lemon or vinegar leave visible etch marks on the white veins. Possible for bar counters in prestige spaces with clear maintenance expectations and consistent sealing; unsuitable for everyday cooking. For carefree dark green kitchen worktops we recommend an acid-resistant green granite or quartzite.
For floors, Verde Borgogna can be used in moderately loaded interior areas (living rooms, prestige entrance areas), but because of the moderate hardness and acid sensitivity not in areas with heavy moisture exposure or high traffic.
For external applications, Verde Borgogna is intended primarily as an interior material. External applications are possible, but because of the acid sensitivity (acid rain) and the soft carbonate veins they are not recommended in northern, frost-prone climate zones. Possible in Mediterranean or warm climate zones with consistent sealing.
