About Zalzala

Zalzala – Arabic for earthquake – is an Indian marble whose slab appearance still clearly carries the tectonic energy that formed it: parallel, densely staggered bands in black, anthracite and silver grey produce an almost rhythmic composition that recalls wave formations or geological bedding. The light veins break through the dark groundmass and lend the material an exceptional visual tension.

As a marble, Zalzala is a carbonate rock and behaves accordingly: acid-sensitive, readily polishable and outstandingly suited to prestige interiors. The dark colouring makes it particularly effective in bathrooms, as a wall cladding, as a floor covering in reception areas or as a statement surface for furniture such as dining tables or vanity tops.

Finishes

Zalzala is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish for marble and limestone — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced depth to the veining. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be matte-gloss in places. Acid-sensitive — wine, lemon and vinegar leave etch marks after prolonged contact.

Care & fabrication

Marble such as Zalzala reacts sensitively to acids. Wipe up acidic substances immediately – do not let them act. Seal after laying and clean regularly with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner. Do not use scouring agents. On dark marbles, water marks and limescale deposits are more visible – regular dry wiping is recommended.
