Avocadus

Geologically it is a quartzite — a metamorphic rock formed by high pressure and temperature from original quartz-bearing sandstones. During metamorphism the original quartz sand grains fused with one another under pressure and temperature and were transformed into a dense, crystalline quartzite bond. Mineralogically, Avocadus is an exceptionally pure quartzite with a high quartz content, which gives it its characteristic technical robustness and its acid-insensitive property. The intense avocado to dark forest green tonality results from chlorite-, epidote- and serpentine-bearing mineral components which were present in particularly concentrated enrichment in the original sandstone sediments and were carried into the quartzite by the metamorphic transformation. The storm-cloud-like anthracite-black flow areas arise from organic carbon-bearing or biotite-rich beddings that were plastically deformed during metamorphism and transformed into flowing patterns of movement. The luminous white quartz cluster accents consist of recrystallised pure quartz or calcite mineralisations.

Visually, Avocadus is defined by an exceptionally theatrical, almost tropically painterly material signature. Across a powerful avocado to dark forest green ground tone spread dramatically flowing anthracite-black currents that run through the slab pattern like storm clouds or smoky movements, interspersed with occasional luminous white quartz cluster islands. The material signature reads almost like a petrified tropical thunderstorm — a feel that corresponds perfectly to the specifically Brazilian natural setting. Slab variation is considerable and characteristic of the stone. In bookmatch installation — mirror-image installation of adjacent slabs — particularly impressive, almost surreal symmetrical large-scale patterns arise with the full dramatic effect of the green, black and white composition.

Technically, Avocadus is among the high-quality Brazilian quartzites with the following figures: bulk density 2650 kg/m³, compressive strength 150 to 160 MPa (mean value 155 MPa), flexural strength 10 to 15 MPa, water absorption below 0.2 %. These values qualify the stone for demanding interior and exterior applications. Acid resistance is given as a typical property of true quartzites — Avocadus is acid-insensitive to lemon juice, vinegar, wine, cola and all household acids, a central advantage over marbles and limestones. Heat resistance is excellent; hot pans can be set down directly on the worktop. This combination of properties qualifies Avocadus without restriction for intensively used kitchen worktops and prestige external applications.

In interior fit-out, Avocadus is a statement material for the highest design demands where a dramatically green material effect is wanted. Classic applications are kitchen worktops in design kitchens, where the material acts as the visual focal point of the architecture; feature walls in living rooms, hotel lobbies and entrance areas; bar counters and counter fronts; bathroom feature walls; table and console tops as statement furniture; fireplace surrounds with dramatic effect. The powerful avocado-green tonality with its dramatic anthracite-black currents harmonises particularly with warm timber fittings in walnut, mahogany or dark oak, with brass, bronze and gold accents, with restrained black and with muted earth tones. Avocadus is a visual soloist of the highest expressive power — it is at its strongest in restrained, refined surroundings in which it is allowed to act as the undisputed focal point. Outdoors it finds use as a façade accent, entrance cladding and prestige paving in high-quality external works.
