About Brazilian Fossil

Fossil Quartzite is one of those decorative Brazilian quartzites that live not from fine veining but from an organic overall movement. Beige, gold, brown, green and grey interlock and produce a fossil-like pattern that almost appears sedimentary. In kitchen islands, splashbacks, wall panels and large surfaces this becomes interesting wherever a strong natural image is called for without moving into a classic marble look. The stone appears warm, multi-layered and highly individual.

Finishes

Brazilian Fossil is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish for quartzite — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced sense of depth. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be satin-gloss in places. As a silicate rock it is fully acid-resistant and scratch-hard — ideal for kitchen worktops and feature surfaces.

Care & fabrication

Despite its hard siliceous structure, Fossil Quartzite should be protected with a suitable silane-based sealer, particularly on worktops and bathroom surfaces. This makes ongoing upkeep easier and reduces the penetration of oils or colouring agents.

For cleaning and care, water, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and soft cloths are suitable. Even so, coffee, wine, oil and strongly colouring foods should not be left standing on the surface any longer than necessary.

Avoid aggressive specialist chemicals and strongly abrasive products. Hard quartzites too benefit from gentle cleaning and care.

For external surfaces: clean and care for them regularly, remove deposits early and work over textured surfaces thoroughly when dirt takes hold.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fossil Quartzite suitable for the kitchen?

Yes. As a quartzite, Fossil Quartzite is very well suited to worktops, because the material is hard, less sensitive to acid than marble and well suited to heavily loaded surfaces.

Which finishes are available for Fossil Quartzite?

The surface finishes currently in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Where does Fossil Quartzite come from?

The stone comes from Brazil.

How do I clean Fossil Quartzite correctly?

For cleaning and care, water, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and soft cloths are suitable. A suitable sealer makes sense on kitchen and bathroom surfaces.

Is Fossil Quartzite frost-resistant?

Quartzites are fundamentally very weather-resistant and of interest for interior as well as exterior applications. Fossil Quartzite too is well suited to properly matched external projects.

Fossil Quartzite or Taj Mahal?

Fossil Quartzite is distinctly more animated, more colourful and more decorative. Taj Mahal appears calmer, more homogeneous and more elegantly restrained.

What does Brazilian Fossil cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
