Berggrün Verde Chalet works through a deep ground tone that plays between moss and bottle green, crossed by fine dark green and black mineral bands running in parallel. The slab appearance recalls the natural rock of Alpine mountain regions — calm, earthy, with a clearly legible structure. It is precisely this character that makes the stone interesting for Alpine architecture, chalet buildings, traditional facades and prestige internal surfaces where an authentic-looking natural stone is called for.
Geologically, Berggrün Verde Chalet is a gneiss from Italian deposits. Gneisses belong to the family of highly metamorphic hard rocks: originally granite or sediment, recrystallised in the earth's crust by pressure and heat over millions of years and aligned in layers. The green colouring comes from embedded chlorite- and epidote-rich minerals. In the natural stone trade, gneisses such as Berggrün Verde Chalet are traditionally assigned to the granite family, because technically and in fabrication they are handled like hard rocks.

Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.
Satin-honed
The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.
Honed C220
A matte-gloss appearance created by fine honing with a C220 grit — the standard honed finish in the hard stone segment. A level surface, calm tonality, distinctly less mirror-like than polished. Slightly more care-intensive than a polish, yet easy to look after day to day; suited to everyday use on floor areas, stairs and wall cladding.
River finish
The surface is roughened by water pressure and then given a colour-enhancing treatment — the shade comes through more strongly than on the flamed-and-brushed variant. Recommended for outdoor areas, terraces and façade claddings that call for a level, slip-resistant surface with a powerful depth of colour.
Care & fabrication
As a gneiss, Berggrün Verde Chalet is fully acid-resistant — wine, lemon, vinegar, coffee or descaler leave no etch marks on the surface. That is the decisive difference from marble and limestone and makes the material easy to look after in kitchens, bathrooms and outdoors.
For kitchen worktops and vanity tops we recommend a one-off sealing on a silane or polysiloxane basis. It prevents oily and greasy soiling from penetrating and makes daily cleaning easier. For internal wall and floor surfaces, sealing is optional.
Routine care is with clear warm water and a soft microfibre cloth. For heavier soiling, use a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner. Hot pots and pans can be set down directly — gneisses are heat-resistant.
Outdoors, Berggrün Verde Chalet is frost-proof and stable over the long term without further protective measures — including under the temperature swings of Alpine climates. Rinse off road salt, pollen or leaves with clear water in spring; a stone cleaner once or twice a year is sufficient.
