About Astoria Ivory
Astoria Ivory is a warm, creamy variety of the Indian natural granite family and belongs to the broad group of ivory and gold-coloured Indian granites traded on the European market under names such as Madura Gold, Kashmir Gold, Imperial Gold or Crema Bordeaux. Characteristic is a warm cream-white to light beige ground matrix with fine golden-yellow to honey-brown mineral fields, scattered silvery quartz crystals and occasional grey or slightly pink-tinged feldspar accents. The slab pattern appears warm, Mediterranean and naturally grown — the variety of minerals creates an evenly lively effect without strong movement patterns or veins. On the market the material also runs under the trade names Astoria Ivory Granite and Astoria White Granite. Geologically, Astoria Ivory is an Indian granite from the broad family of southern Indian plutonic rocks. The plutonic regions of southern India — above all in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka — are among the most productive granite-producing regions in the world and supply a whole palette of warm cream-beige granite varieties. Mineralogically, white to cream-coloured plagioclase and potassium feldspar dominate as the main constituents, supplemented by transparent quartz; the warm gold tones arise from iron oxide impregnations in mica and feldspar crystals, the additional reddish speckling from garnet or iron-oxide-rich accessory minerals. The fine-grained, even texture clearly identifies the material as an igneous plutonic stone.
The following technical values place Astoria Ivory in the class of robust hard rocks: bulk density 2,660–2,680 kg/m³, compressive strength 165–180 MPa, flexural strength 13–15 MPa, water absorption 0.20–0.35 per cent. With water absorption in the low range, the material is clearly in frost-proof territory and unreservedly suitable for external applications in central European climate zones with freeze-thaw exposure. Acid resistance is given within the normal range of application — wine, lemon juice, vinegar or carbonated drinks leave no etch marks. Compared with classic Indian gold varieties such as Madura Gold or Kashmir Gold, Astoria Ivory is somewhat lighter in its ground colour, with less pronounced golden-yellow banding and a quieter, more even mineral distribution; compared with Crema Bordeaux, the reddish note is more restrained.

Care & fabrication
As an Indian granite, Astoria Ivory can be maintained over the long term and cleaned without difficulty. For kitchen worktops, external paving and heavily frequented floors we recommend a silane- or polysiloxane-based sealer as protection against red wine, coffee, oil and tomato sauce — with a predominantly pale material such as Astoria Ivory, sealing is especially worthwhile, since stains show up more strongly on a light ground than on dark stones. Routine cleaning is done with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or mop; clear water alone is almost always sufficient for daily care. You should avoid strongly alkaline deep cleaners, acidic products such as vinegar or lemon cleaners, and abrasive scouring pads. Outdoors, Astoria Ivory is frost-resistant and tolerant of de-icing salt — salt residues should be rinsed off with water in spring. We recommend refreshing the sealer every three to five years depending on exposure, more frequently on kitchen worktops and exposed external surfaces.
