About Blue Eyes

Blue Eyes is a stone for anyone who wants blue to read not as a flat expanse but as something visually alive. The ground colour is grey to grey-blue, over which lies a shifting blue shimmer that emerges more or less strongly depending on the viewing angle. This effect comes from the labradorite crystals in the rock. As a result Blue Eyes never appears rigid, but always slightly in motion. On polished surfaces this is particularly strong; on matt finishes it is more controlled and more technical.

Finishes

Blue Eyes is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Care & fabrication

Blue Eyes should be sealed on kitchen and wet surfaces. This makes cleaning and maintenance easier and reduces grease and limescale marks on polished areas.

For cleaning and maintenance you should use pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and soft cloths. Strongly acidic specialist cleaners make no sense, because individual minerals can react more sensitively than classic granite surfaces.

On polished surfaces it is worth drying off regularly, so that the blue shimmer stays clear and no films of water are left standing. Abrasive pads and aggressive degreasers should be avoided.

Outdoors, a suitable surface finish, clean drainage and proper installation are decisive. Blue Eyes then remains very convincing over the long term.

Frequently asked questions

Is Blue Eyes suitable for a kitchen?

Yes. With around 2,690 kg/m³ bulk density, roughly 0.18 % water absorption, 225 MPa compressive strength and 22.1 MPa flexural strength, Blue Eyes is a very resilient material for kitchen worktops.

Which finishes are available for Blue Eyes?

The surface finishes currently held in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Where does Blue Eyes come from?

Blue Eyes comes from Canada, from the Labrador region. Anorthositic hard rocks with a labradorite blue shimmer are quarried there.

How do I clean and care for Blue Eyes?

For cleaning and maintenance, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and a soft cloth are sufficient. Aggressive acidic cleaners are to be avoided.

Is Blue Eyes frost-resistant?

Yes. Blue Eyes is frost-resistant and therefore well suited to façades, stairs and other external applications, provided the finish is chosen appropriately.

Blue Eyes or Blue in the Night?

Blue Eyes appears lighter and more silvery, with a more pronounced Labrador shimmer. Blue in the Night is darker, denser and altogether more dramatic.

What does Blue Eyes cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
