Brazilian gneiss (a medium- to high-grade metamorphic rock, in the international trade often listed as “granite”) from the Precambrian shield areas of Brazil. Mineralogically characterised by a light plagioclase-quartz groundmass with dark mafic phenocrysts (biotite, amphibole) and in particular by warm pink to red-brown garnet phenocrysts (almandine), which are an indicator of the medium to high metamorphic grade. Mohs hardness approx. 6, high compressive strength, low water absorption, fully acid- and heat-resistant.

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.
Care & fabrication
Branco Franciscato is a dense Brazilian gneiss with high compressive strength and full acid, heat and frost resistance.
Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.
Do not use: concentrated acids, steel wool.
Sealing: on polished surfaces, advisable every 18–36 months depending on exposure. Given the pale tonality, sealing is important in order to prevent oil and food stains.
Kitchen worktop: hot pans can be set down directly, and wine and lemon leave no etch marks.
Stain treatment: wipe off fresh splashes immediately.
Repair: scratches in the polish can be evened out by proper re-polishing.
