Caesarstone® 535 Goldesse

Caesarstone® 535 Goldesse is a large-format porcelain slab from the Israeli manufacturer Caesarstone, part of its Porcelain Collection, with a light pure white base tone and strong, organically flowing gold veining. In design terms the slab quotes the classic Calacatta Oro marble: a white cream ground run through with powerful warm gold to copper main veins, interspersed with fine grey accompanying traces. About Caesarstone® 535 Goldesse

Background. Caesarstone was founded in 1987 at Kibbutz Sdot Yam in Israel and is regarded as one of the pioneers of industrial engineered quartz slab production. Since 2019/2020 the brand has supplemented its range with a Porcelain Collection – large-format porcelain slabs developed as the technological answer to the growing demand for exterior suitability, heat resistance and acid resistance, which the classic engineered quartz range cannot deliver in full. The variant presented here, 535 Goldesse, comes from this Porcelain Collection and is in design terms one of the brand's most expressive Calacatta Oro selections.

Material composition and manufacture. A Caesarstone porcelain slab consists of around 100 % mineral raw materials – feldspar, quartz, clay minerals and pigments – without polymer binders. The mixture is compacted in a mould by pressing, provided with decorated pigment layers for the veining and then sintered at temperatures above 1,200 °C. During this sintering the mineral particles partially fuse into a closed crystalline mineral structure – the end product is a fully sintered, wholly mineral slab with no resin content. From this follow decisive technical advantages over Caesarstone's classic engineered quartz line: water absorption below 0.1 %, very high heat resistance (hot pots can be set down directly), full UV resistance and hence exterior suitability, frost resistance and almost complete acid resistance.

The 535 Goldesse variant. Goldesse shows a light, slightly warm-toned cream white base tone, run through with strong, organically flowing main veins in warm gold to copper tones as well as finer grey accompanying lines. The vein pattern is clearly marble-inspired – stylistically an allusion to the classic Calacatta Oro marble from the Apuan Alps, whose gold veining has been regarded for centuries as one of the noblest of marble patterns. The Caesarstone slab transfers this image into a controlled porcelain composition: the veins run organically, but are deliberately composed graphically and not left to chance as in natural marble. From a medium distance the slab reads as a luxurious marble character with a powerful staging of gold veining; at close range one discovers the fine modulation of the gold tones and the delicate grey accompanying traces that give the composition depth.

Format and thicknesses. Caesarstone supplies the porcelain slabs in large format – the standard format is around 320 × 162 cm in thicknesses of 1.2 cm and 2 cm. The thinner thicknesses are particularly suited to wall claddings, furniture fronts and façades; the 2 cm slab is standard for kitchen worktops and bar counters (frequently with a mitred edge joint for a visibly thicker appearance of up to 4–6 cm at the visible edge).

Thermal and chemical properties. Unlike the classic Caesarstone quartz line, there is no polyester resin here – so the typical weaknesses fall away: Goldesse is heat-resistant (hot pots can be set down directly; the slab is insensitive well beyond 200 °C), almost completely acid-resistant (wine, lemon, tomato, vinegar leave no traces) and fully UV-stable (suitable for outdoor use). Frost and weather resistance are given.

The luxurious gold-vein appearance comes into its own most strongly as an island or bar counter element, set against calm cabinet fronts and matt wall paints; combined with brass, bronze, dark wood and black sanitary fittings, the result is the typical premium Calacatta look of contemporary kitchen architecture.

Comparison. Within the Caesarstone portfolio, Goldesse is one of the most expressive slabs of the Porcelain Collection. Against the classic Caesarstone quartz 5 series (5114 Calacatta Maximus, 5151 Empira White), the porcelain variant offers two important advantages: heat resistance and exterior suitability. Against genuine Calacatta Oro marble, the slab remains calculable in its vein pattern, more acid- and scratch-resistant and completely non-porous – the natural marble appears livelier and more individual, but is care-intensive and acid-sensitive in kitchen use. Against competing porcelain (Laminam Calacatta lines, Neolith Calacatta Gold, Dekton Aura, GEOLUXE), Caesarstone Goldesse is technically at a comparable level – the choice of brand is governed primarily by vein pattern, availability, delivery times and warranty conditions.

Finishes

Caesarstone® 535 Goldesse is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Honed C400

A special surface on Caesarstone ceramic — in feel and effect it corresponds to the naturale matt finish. Level in appearance, somewhat rougher than polished, closed by the firing. Easy to care for, insensitive to scratches and stain-resistant — for demanding kitchen worktops and wall claddings with matt elegance.

Care & fabrication

Cleaning. In everyday use, warm water, a soft cloth or a clean mop and a neutral to slightly alkaline pH cleaner are sufficient. Mild all-purpose cleaners, mild washing-up foam and all commercially available bathroom and kitchen cleaners without hydrofluoric acid (HF) are suitable. The porcelain is almost completely acid-resistant – even acetic, citric and hydrochloric acid attack the slab practically not at all. Take up spilt liquids promptly, because every shadow is immediately visible on the light surface; the material itself, however, is non-porous and therefore stain-resistant.

Do not use. Hydrofluoric acid (HF) and cleaners containing fluoride are the only class of substance that can genuinely attack porcelain – they occur practically only in industrial glass and stone cleaners and are not relevant in the household. And even though the slab is hard: steel wool and strongly abrasive pads can cause the very finest matting on the surface.

Impregnation. Not necessary – porcelain is inherently dense and non-porous, and water absorption is below 0.1 %. An impregnation would tend to show on the surface as a veil and is superfluous.

Kitchen. In kitchen use, 535 Goldesse is technically almost unbeatable: hot pots can briefly be set down directly (the slab is insensitive well beyond 200 °C), acids such as vinegar, wine, lemon and tomato leave no traces, and there is no cut damage through the polyester resin, because there is no polyester resin. Even so, we recommend chopping boards (knife blades blunt faster on the hard slab) and trivets when cooking as standard practice, so that the light veined surface is not visually disturbed by impact patterns.

Bathroom. In the bathroom the slab can be used without restriction as a washstand, wall cladding, bath surround and shower. Anti-limescale sprays and all commercially available bathroom cleaners are permitted. Wipe standing water away promptly in the shower area so that a limescale film cannot build up – on the bright white slab, limescale rims are visible as lighter shadows.

Outdoors and frost. Fully suitable. The slab is UV-stable, frost- and weather-resistant and can be used as a back-ventilated façade panel, external wall cladding, pool surround and outdoor kitchen worktop. The surface finishes available in stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down.

Scratches and repair. Porcelain is very hard (around Mohs 7) and therefore considerably more scratch-resistant than most natural materials. Deeper damage cannot simply be re-polished – repair is carried out by replacing the affected workpiece. Particular care with edges and cut-outs is therefore required during fabrication; mitred joints should be executed by experienced specialist firms with special adhesive and precise workshop preparation – for Goldesse additionally with attention to the vein pattern at the edges.
