Background. CTX BasicKeramik® is the house brand of ROSSITTIS GmbH for large-format porcelain slabs – produced in Italy by the ABK Group, one of the largest European manufacturers of technical fine ceramics, based in Solignano (province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna). The Atlantis collection within the ABK programme line is one of the manufacturer's natural-stone-based quartzite-look lines – inspired by classic Italian and Brazilian quartzites with characteristic veining and a mineral dimension-stone appearance. “Smoke” denotes the smoky mid-grey tonal variant within the Atlantis family.
Material build-up and manufacture. An ABK porcelain slab consists of around 100 % mineral raw materials – feldspar, quartz, clay minerals and pigments – without polymer binders. The mixture is compacted in a pressing process, provided with decorated pigment layers for the surface appearance and then sintered at temperatures above 1,200 °C in a tunnel kiln. In this sintering, the mineral particles partly fuse into a closed crystalline mineral structure – the end product is a fully mineral, through-sintered large-format slab without any resin content. From this arise the typical advantages over engineered quartz: water absorption below 0.1 %, very high heat resistance (hot pots can be set down directly), full UV resistance and hence suitability for external use, frost resistance and almost complete acid resistance.
The Atlantis Smoke variant. The base tone is a medium smoke-grey dimension-stone tone with subtle warm undertones – lighter than anthracite-grey variants such as Laminam Fokos Piombo, darker than light grey quartzite imitations. Across the surface run characteristic diagonal darker grey veins and subtle smoky, cloudy honing structures, which give the slab an animated but controlled mineral dimension-stone appearance. From a medium distance the surface reads as a calm but animated mid-grey with a classic quartzite character; from close up one discovers the fine pigmented honing structure and the diagonal vein runs. Stylistically, Atlantis Smoke is an allusion to the Italian Pietra Piasentina dimension stone (a mid-grey dimension stone from Friuli-Venezia Giulia) and to grey quartzite sortings from Brazil.
Formats and thicknesses. ABK supplies the Atlantis slabs in the standard large format. ROSSITTIS stocks Atlantis Smoke in thicknesses of 6 mm (for wall claddings, furniture fronts and bonded applications) and 12 mm (standard for internal floors, external floor coverings and kitchen worktops).
Thermal and chemical properties. Unlike engineered quartz, there is no polyester resin here – which removes the typical weaknesses: Atlantis Smoke is heat-proof (hot pots can be set down directly, the slab is insensitive well above 200 °C), almost completely acid-proof (wine, lemon, tomato, vinegar leave no marks) and fully UV-stable (suitable for external use). Frost and weather resistance are given. Water absorption: virtually zero (below 0.1 %, as is typical of porcelain).
ROSSITTIS range. We stock Atlantis Smoke with the naturale matt standard finish held in depth, in 6 and 12 mm thickness; further thicknesses and finishes from the ABK programme are available on request. From the slabs we fabricate kitchen worktops, islands, bar counters, buffet and furniture panels, wall claddings, bathroom fit-outs (vanity tops, wall and floor tiles, showers with proper waterproofing), window sills, skirtings, internal floors in large format or tile format, external floor coverings, pool surrounds and rear-ventilated façade systems.
Comparison. Within the ABK Atlantis family, Smoke positions itself as the most moderately animated, smoke-grey, dimension-stone-like variant. Related Atlantis variants comprise further tonal variants of the quartzite-look line. Compared with Laminam Fokos Piombo (concrete look, darker, calmer), Atlantis Smoke shows a markedly more quartzite-like drawing with characteristic veins – stylistically a different material quotation. Compared with real Pietra Piasentina (Italian natural stone), Atlantis Smoke remains more predictable and easier to care for, while the natural stone appears geologically more authentic with uncontrollable batch variation. In competitive comparison with other porcelain brands (Laminam, Neolith, Dekton, Caesarstone Lioli, SapienStone), the ABK programme line offers an attractive value-for-money level with the same technical quality – CTX BasicKeramik is the ROSSITTIS house brand for this line with permanently constant availability from stock.
Frank assessment. Atlantis Smoke is a controlled, predictable choice for any application calling for a quartzite-like dimension-stone appearance in a medium smoke-grey tonal value. The variant works particularly strongly as a kitchen worktop and island in modern kitchen schemes, as an internal floor in spacious residential and hospitality spaces, as a wall cladding and as a rear-ventilated façade panel. Anyone looking for a calm, homogeneous concrete-look effect should switch to Laminam Fokos Piombo or similar concrete-look variants; anyone wanting powerful marble veining should reach for Calacatta- or Statuario-oriented variants; anyone who prefers authentic Italian Pietra Piasentina natural stone should accept the higher care effort of the natural stone material.
