About Cinzento

Cinzento – Portuguese for “ash” or “grey” – is an Indian sandstone that convinces through its calm, homogeneous grey colouring and its fine grain. The slab image is deliberately restrained: no strong veining, no dramatic contrasts – instead an even, earthy presence that is exactly right in many architectural contexts.

Sandstones such as Cinzento consist mainly of quartz and feldspar grains held together by a natural binder. This open structure makes them receptive to sealers and somewhat more susceptible to strong acids than hard stones. At the same time, sandstone is exceptionally easy to work – it can be cut, dressed and profiled well, which predestines it for craft-based and historically inspired applications.

Care & fabrication

Sandstone such as Cinzento should be treated regularly with a high-quality sealer to keep moisture and stains at bay. For cleaning, use only mild, pH-neutral cleaning products – no acids, which can attack the limestone binder. Outdoors, cleaning with moderate water pressure is possible.
