About Cioccolato

Cioccolato lives up to its name. The surface moves between dark brown, bitter chocolate and almost black cocoa, in places with linear and in places with cloudy movement. That makes the stone warm, heavy and decidedly elegant. Unlike black marbles or stones, the mood stays softer and more domestic. In dark bathrooms, prestige staircases or striking floor areas in particular, this has a special quality.

The stone comes from Brazil. Technically, Cioccolato is astonishingly compact for a marble: the bulk density is around 2,730 kg/m³, the water absorption only around 0.01 per cent, the compressive strength around 69 MPa and the flexural strength around 17.5 MPa. Frost resistance is documented as well. These values make it more hard-wearing, but they change nothing about the fundamental marble sensitivity to acids.

Cioccolato is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Poliert

Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung für Marmor und Kalkstein — eine glänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und ausgeprägter Tiefenwirkung der Aderung. Je nach mineralischer Zusammensetzung kann die Wirkung stellenweise mattglänzend sein. Säureempfindlich — Wein, Zitrone und Essig hinterlassen Ätzspuren bei längerer Einwirkung.

Care & fabrication

Cioccolato should be professionally sealed on worktops, vanity tops and other sensitive working surfaces. That is worthwhile despite the very low water absorption, because it makes maintenance easier.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral stone cleaners and soft cloths are suitable. Acidic household cleaners, descalers and aggressive bathroom chemicals are unsuitable for marble.

On dark surfaces, limescale, soap residues and grease films become visible. Regular, gentle cleaning and care is therefore particularly important.

For heavily used kitchens the same honest limitation applies as with other marbles: anyone who does not accept a patina should switch to more robust alternatives there.
