CTX BasicAgglo® New Micro Carrara

CTX BasicAgglo® New Micro Carrara is a marble agglomerate from the Italian manufacturer Civet, based on light white-grey Carrara marble chippings from the main Apuan quarrying district (Tuscany). In the micro grain size (≈ 0.7–2 mm) the polished slab shows a very fine, evenly distributed mosaic of dots with a marked light-dark contrast between chippings and matrix. At ROSSITTIS we fabricate the large-format slabs into interior stairs, window sills, vanity units, wall claddings, floor coverings and made-to-measure interior components.

An industrial resin-bonded marble agglomerate material from the CTX BasicAgglo collection (Civet, Italy), based on light white-grey Bianco Carrara marble chippings from the Apuan Alps (Tuscany) – not a naturally formed marble. The “New” generation with a cooler, slightly bluish white tone as against the warmer predecessor mix.

About CTX BasicAgglo® New Micro Carrara

Background. CTX BasicAgglo® is the marble agglomerate line of the Italian materials manufacturer Civet (CTX). The slabs are produced by the classic Bretonstone® process: natural stone chippings are spread out under vacuum in a mould together with roughly 6–10 % polyester resin, mineral additives and pigments, compacted by low-frequency vibration and polymerised in a curing oven. The end product is a highly compacted large-format slab with the look of a finely patterned marble, more flexurally strong and more dimensionally stable than a natural slab and designed specifically for series interior fit-out.

Finishes

CTX BasicAgglo® New Micro Carrara is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

The highest possible gloss with pronounced colour intensity — the level and easiest-to-maintain surface in the agglomerate segment. The mirror-smooth finish shows the composite material's composition to full advantage. A prestigious choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and designed feature surfaces in interior fit-out.

Care & fabrication

Cleaning. Day to day, warm water, a soft cloth or a clean mop and a neutral to mildly alkaline pH cleaner are enough. Soapy marble or engineered-stone cleaners and mild all-purpose cleaners without acid are suitable. Wipe up spilled liquids such as red wine, coffee, tea, juices or oil promptly, because the resin-bound marble aggregate can draw in pigment in spots and every shadow quickly becomes visible on the pale surface.

Do not use. Limescale and sanitary cleaners, anti-limescale sprays, acetic and citric acid, drain cleaners, toilet cleaners, cement and rust removers, highly concentrated all-purpose cleaners and chlorine-based bleaches are off limits. They attack both the marble chippings (carbonate reacts with acid) and the polyester resin and lead to dull patches or bleaching. Avoid solvent-based products (acetone, petrol, thinners, nitro cleaners) as well – they can soften the binder.

Impregnation. A classic natural stone impregnation is not strictly required – with a water absorption of only 0.04 % the polyester matrix largely seals the slab. In areas with a raised risk of staining (open-plan kitchen, vanity top, bar) we nevertheless recommend a light, non-film-forming silane-polysiloxane-based stone impregnator as additional protection, above all on the honed version.

Kitchen. Polished surfaces tolerate brief kitchen use but are not thermally resilient: trivets for hot pots, pans and baking trays are mandatory; keep permanent heat sources (oven, dishwasher) away by design. Use chopping boards – the material is hard, but polyester resin can go dull along knife marks over time. Wipe off grease and acid stains (tomato, lemon, wine) immediately.

Bathroom. New Micro Carrara works well in the bathroom (vanity top, wall cladding, shower). Consistently avoid acidic care products and limescale-dissolving sprays, because on pale marble aggregates they leave visible shadows. In the shower area, wipe standing water away promptly so that no limescale film builds up. Take care with henna and hair-colouring products – the pale surface reacts sensitively to pigment ingress.

Outdoors and frost. Not suitable for exterior construction. Polyester resin yellows under UV radiation, freeze-thaw cycles can cause micro defects, and the data sheet declares no frost resistance. Nor is the material to be recommended permanently in fully sunlit conservatories or open loggias.

Scratches and repair. Superficial scratches on the polished version can be re-polished by a stonemason, deeper damage made good with tinted polyester filler and worked in to an exact colour match. Because the material is mixed industrially, colour-accurate repairs are usually well within reach.

Frequently asked questions

What is CTX BasicAgglo® New Micro Carrara in geological and technical terms?

It is a resin-bound marble agglomerate made by the Italian manufacturer Civet. Natural stone chippings of white Bianco Carrara marble (Apuan Alps, Tuscany) in the micro grain size (≈ 0.7–2 mm) are compacted with roughly 6–10 % polyester resin into large-format slabs using the Bretonstone® vacuum process. The end product is not a naturally formed stone but an industrial engineered stone with the character of Carrara marble.

What technical values does the slab offer?

Civet data sheets declare a bulk density of around 2,560 kg/m³ and a very low water absorption of about 0.04 % for the Micro Carrara line. Flexural strength is about 18–19 MPa, clearly above typical natural marbles. Frost resistance is not declared – the material is designed as an interior material.

What does the prefix “New” mean compared with earlier Micro Carrara generations?

“New” stands for a revised generation of the formula with a cooler, slightly bluish-white resin and pigment balance. Format, thicknesses and fabrication profile remain the same. The chip contrast is more cleanly differentiated and the Carrara character reads more clearly than with the rather brownish-toned predecessor mix.

How does New Micro Carrara differ from genuine Bianco Carrara?

Natural Bianco Carrara stone shows the classic play of veining with larger grey bands and individual variation. The agglomerate remains finely dotted, uniform and dependable to plan with. Anyone who needs a calm Carrara character and does not expect veining is well served by the engineered stone; anyone who wants the classic natural veined appearance should stay with natural marble.

Is this engineered stone suitable for exterior surfaces?

No, clearly not. Polyester binders yellow under UV radiation, the data sheet declares no frost resistance, and freeze-thaw cycles can cause micro defects. New Micro Carrara is designed as an interior material and should also not be permanently installed in fully sunlit conservatories or open loggias.

How heat-resistant is the surface in the kitchen?

Only to a limited degree. The engineered stone tolerates brief warmth, but never set down hot pots, pans or baking trays directly. Above sustained temperatures of around 80–90 °C the binder can soften, bleach out or develop stress cracks. In kitchens we recommend use with trivets and a light stone impregnator as additional protection against grease and juices.

Which cleaners may I use on New Micro Carrara?

Permitted are warm water, neutral to mildly alkaline stone care products and mild all-purpose cleaners without acid. Off limits are acetic, citric and hydrochloric acid, limescale removers, anti-limescale sprays, cement and rust removers, chlorine-based bleaches and solvents such as acetone or thinners.

How do I repair scratches and damage?

Superficial marks on the polished version can be re-polished by a stonemason; deeper damage can be made good with tinted polyester filler and worked in to an exact colour match. The advantage over a natural slab: because the material is mixed industrially, colour-accurate repairs are usually well within reach.

What does CTX BasicAgglo® New Micro Carrara cost?

The price depends on the format, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
