CTX BasicKeramik® RES Cemento Grigio is a fully through-sintered ceramic with a water absorption of < 0.1 % and needs no impregnation. Its care is the simplest of all material classes for engineered surfaces.
Daily cleaning: a soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a neutral multi-purpose cleaner or a mild glass cleaner. Afterwards wipe over with clean water and polish dry. With concrete-look surfaces, regular cleaning is particularly important, since grease and limescale films can otherwise become visible on the mid grey tonality.
Acid resistance: complete. Unlike with genuine fair-faced concrete or natural stone, lemon juice, vinegar, wine, tomato sauce, coffee, cola or descaler are uncritical on RES Cemento Grigio and leave no etch marks. Where soiling is heavier, concentrated special porcelain cleaners can be used.
Heat resistance: complete. Hot pans, pots, baking trays or casserole dishes can be set down on the surface straight from the cooker — without a trivet.
Scratch resistance: very high (Mohs hardness 7–8). Steel knives and the usual kitchen tools produce no scratches. A chopping board is not required, but is recommended in order to spare the knives.
UV stability: complete. Direct sunlight outdoors causes no discolouration — Cemento Grigio is equally suitable for outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, terrace tables and south-facing façades.
Stain treatment: all common food and household stains can be removed with warm water and a neutral cleaner. Stubborn stains (dried-on meat juices, turmeric, red wine) can be treated with special porcelain cleaners.
Do not use: extremely aggressive acids (hydrofluoric acid HF — relevant to the glass industry, not relevant in households), coarse steel wool, diamond files — these materials can damage the naturale matt finish, but are not to be expected in a normal household.
Outdoors: regular cleaning of pollen, bird droppings, algal growth and road salt residues — without any special protective measures. Freeze-thaw cycles are uncritical.
Repair: porcelain is very robust, but on a direct blow to the edge the material can splinter or break. Damage to an edge as a rule requires the replacement of the affected slab element or a proper build-up. Careful fabrication and protective edges are important points of detail.
