About Jura gelb

Jura Gelb is one of the best-known German natural stones and a fixed reference in the everyday work of many specifiers. Its colour lies between yellow-beige, honey and pale brown nuances, complemented by the fossil inclusions typical of the stone. It is precisely this mixture of calm, warmth and geological legibility that has made Jura Gelb so popular for decades. On floors, stairs, walls or window sills the material reads as prestigious without being loud. Compared with many Mediterranean limestones, Jura Gelb is usually more compact and more like a working dimension stone.

Poliert

Politur ist die klassischste Veredelung für Marmor und Kalkstein — eine glänzende Oberfläche mit höchstmöglicher Farbintensität und ausgeprägter Tiefenwirkung der Aderung. Je nach mineralischer Zusammensetzung kann die Wirkung stellenweise mattglänzend sein. Säureempfindlich — Wein, Zitrone und Essig hinterlassen Ätzspuren bei längerer Einwirkung.

Sandgestrahlt

Die Oberfläche wird mit Hochdruck und Quarzsand bestrahlt und gleichmäßig aufgeraut — die Fläche bleibt plan, fühlt sich aber rau an. Die Farbe wirkt weniger intensiv als bei polierten Varianten. Rutschhemmend und frostbeständig — für Außenbereiche, Pflasterungen und Stufen mit Anforderung an Trittsicherheit.

Satiniert

Die Oberfläche wird gebürstet — weichere Minerale werden gezielt entfernt, es entsteht eine subtile Tiefe und mattes Erscheinungsbild. Besonders geaderte Kalksteine erhalten so eine charaktervolle Optik und Haptik. Die mattere Veredelung kaschiert kleine Ätzungen besser als poliert und ist alltagstauglicher für stark beanspruchte Innenflächen.

Geschliffen C220

Mattes Erscheinungsbild durch feinen Schliff mit Körnung C220 — die ebene Oberfläche wirkt ruhig mit etwas intensiverer Farbwirkung als C120, leichte Schleifspuren möglich. Pflegeintensiver als poliert, dafür kratzfester und matt-elegant — beliebte Wahl für moderne Bodenflächen und Wandverkleidungen.

Sandgestrahlt+satiniert

Die Oberfläche wird sandgestrahlt aufgeraut und anschließend gebürstet — dadurch entsteht eine plane Fläche mit sanfterer Haptik als rein sandgestrahlt. Die Farbe wirkt zurückhaltend, die Textur ist rutschhemmend. Für anspruchsvolle Außenanwendungen, bei denen Trittsicherheit mit feinerer Haptik kombiniert werden soll.

Care & fabrication

As a calcite-bound natural stone, Jura Gelb should be sealed carefully, particularly on floors, stairs and kitchen or bathroom surfaces. At around 1.1 % water absorption, surface protection matters for later cleaning and care.

For cleaning and care, only pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and soft cloths or mops are suitable. Acidic cleaners, descalers and even household products containing citric acid are unsuitable for Jura Gelb and cause matt etch marks.

Avoid aggressive chemistry, standing moisture and abrasive pads. On floor areas, dirt-trapping zones help, because sand and fine grit can put a long-term strain on the surface.

Indoors and outdoors, clean and care for the stone regularly and refresh the sealer according to use. For external applications, always make sure of a suitable, unpolished finish and check the specific frost suitability of the batch.

Is Jura Gelb a marble or a limestone?

Geologically, Jura Gelb is a limestone. In the natural stone trade, however, it is traditionally listed in the marble segment, because its fabrication, appearance and market perception all sit there.

Is Jura Gelb suitable as a worktop?

Only to a limited extent. At 2,610 kg/m³ bulk density and 149 MPa compressive strength, Jura Gelb is certainly stable, but it remains acid-sensitive and in kitchens reacts markedly more sensitively to lemon, vinegar or wine than granite or quartzite.

Where does Jura Gelb come from?

Jura Gelb comes from Bavaria, from the Treuchtlingen area in the Franconian Jura. The fossils in the stone go back to deposits of a tropical Jurassic sea.
