About Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe

Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe belongs to the black natural stones that work not through veining or mica, but through consistency. The image is almost uniformly deep black, fine and without direction. It is precisely this calm that makes the material so strong for modern kitchens, stairwells, window sills, façades and dark interior fit-outs. Unlike Star Galaxy or Galaxy Black, this is not about reflections or decoration, but about homogeneity. Anyone looking for a black granite that reads as precise, pared back and almost graphic arrives at Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe very quickly.

The stone comes from the Mutoko region north-east of Harare in Zimbabwe. It has been traded as a black granite for decades and is specified and fabricated exactly that way. Petrographically the truth is narrower, as the rock tends towards gabbro or norite. For day-to-day planning, however, what matters is how the material behaves: very dense, very black, very load-bearing and with outstanding external capability. That is precisely why Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe is still regarded as the benchmark when absolute calm in black is required.

Technically the stone is exceptionally strongly positioned. Bulk density is 3,040 kg/m³, compressive strength 228 MPa, flexural strength 31 MPa and water absorption only 0.11 %. Added to that are frost resistance and acid resistance in normal construction use. This puts Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe well above many other black hard rocks and makes it suitable not only for high-quality internal applications but also for heavily loaded external surfaces. The combination of very low water absorption and high strength in particular is what makes it so interesting for kitchen worktops, façade panels, stairs and floor surfaces.

The stone also remains versatile in its finishes. Polished, it delivers the most intense deep black and the strongest mirror gloss. Finishes

Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Satin-honed

The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.

Honed C120

A matt appearance created by coarse honing with C120 grit — the level surface shows a more restrained colour intensity than polished and can carry visible honing marks. Compared with a polish it is more maintenance-intensive but stylistically calmer; the preferred choice for modern interior architecture with reduced reflection.

Honed C220

A matte-gloss appearance created by fine honing with a C220 grit — the standard honed finish in the hard stone segment. A level surface, calm tonality, distinctly less mirror-like than polished. Slightly more care-intensive than a polish, yet easy to look after day to day; suited to everyday use on floor areas, stairs and wall cladding.

Naturale matt

Like River Finish: a matte special finish, primarily for Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe. The surface looks natural, with a subtle depth and a level yet rough feel. Recommended for outdoor areas and for prestigious applications where a restrained, refined character without high gloss is wanted.

Anticato, treated

A special finish for Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe: flamed and intensively brushed with an additional colour-enhancing treatment — a rustic, lively look in a particularly intense black. Recommended for kitchens and for interior wall and floor cladding with an expressive, dark material character.

Anticato, untreated

Special finish for Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe: flamed and intensively brushed without any colour-enhancing treatment — a rustic, lively look in the material's original colour. Recommended for kitchens and interior wall and floor claddings in which the unaltered character of the stone is to be emphasised.

Polished, reverse honed

A slab usable on both sides: a polished face side with the highest possible colour intensity and mirror gloss, the reverse honed (C220) with a satin-gloss, calmer appearance. It allows two application looks on a single piece of material — flexible for design variants and for constructions visible from both sides.

Flamed + brushed once

The surface is roughened by heat and brushed once to smooth sharp-edged mineral residues and remove loose material. The feel is somewhat gentler than purely flamed, it remains slip-resistant, and the colour is less intense than polished. The standard choice for outdoor areas, terraces and heavily used floor areas.

Care & fabrication

Despite its very low water absorption, Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe should be protected on worktops, floors and façades with a suitable silane-based sealer. This makes ongoing maintenance easier and reduces visible water and grease marks.

Water, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and soft microfibre cloths are suitable for cleaning and care. On polished black surfaces, limescale, grease, soap residues and dust should be removed regularly so that no dull films remain visible.

Avoid unnecessarily aggressive specialist chemicals, strongly alkaline cleaners and abrasive pads. Even a very dense black hard rock benefits from gentle cleaning and care.
