Black Ice is a deep black Brazilian hard rock with a fine-grained, almost directionless structure. At ROSSITTIS it is used for worktops, facades, stairs and calm dark external and internal surfaces.
Black Ice is a dark stone for projects that are not looking for a glittering or strongly animated black effect. The ground colour is deep black to anthracite, complemented by a very fine, almost even mineral structure. In larger surfaces in particular this reads as calm, matter-of-fact and architecturally clean. Black Ice therefore stands closer to the closed black hard rocks than to lively materials such as Star Galaxy or Black Antique.
The material comes from Brazil and is petrographically a gabbro. In the trade it is carried as a granite, like many dense black gabbros, because fabrication, application logic and customer expectation fall clearly within that segment. Compared with Nero Assoluto, Black Ice reads as somewhat more mineral and less absolutely black. Against coarse-grained dark granites it remains markedly calmer and more homogeneous. For modern kitchens, facades, stairwells and reduced commercial architecture, precisely this restraint is often the real advantage.
Specific individual values are not consistently available for Black Ice, but the rock class can be classified well: dense black gabbros typically lie at around 2,960 kg/m³ bulk density, around 226 MPa compressive strength, around 21 MPa flexural strength and mostly well below 0.2 % water absorption. That explains why such materials convince both indoors and outdoors, provided the construction and the choice of finish are right. For kitchens, Black Ice is therefore fundamentally well suited; against acid-sensitive black marbles it is the markedly more robust solution.

Black Ice is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.
Satin-honed
The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.
River finish
The surface is roughened by water pressure and then given a colour-enhancing treatment — the shade comes through more strongly than on the flamed-and-brushed variant. Recommended for outdoor areas, terraces and façade claddings that call for a level, slip-resistant surface with a powerful depth of colour.
Care & fabrication
Black Ice should be sealed in kitchens, bathrooms and heavily used circulation areas. That makes cleaning and care easier and reduces the risk of grease films, limescale rims and coloured stains on dark areas.
For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, warm water and a soft microfibre cloth are sufficient. On dark surfaces, regular dry wiping is worthwhile, because water marks are visually more noticeable on black.
Avoid strongly acidic or strongly alkaline specialist cleaners without natural stone approval, as well as abrasive pads. Oil, coffee and wine should not be left standing on worktops for long, even though the stone is markedly more robust than black marble.
Outdoors, a suitable finish, clean drainage and frost-proof laying are decisive. Black Ice then remains permanently calm and hard-wearing.
