About Oppdal Quarzit

Oppdal Quarzit is one of the soberly strong natural stones. The silvery grey colouring appears matter-of-fact, clear and durable without seeming sterile. Depending on the working, the impression ranges from finely restrained to distinctly stonier and more rustic. In central European architecture in particular this is a great advantage: the stone can be used in a modern, Alpine, landscape-related or very technical way. Finishes

Oppdal Quarzit is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Riven

The surface corresponds to a natural cleft of the stone — a matt, rough character with high slip safety and a natural effect. Recommended for outdoor areas, wall facings and heavily used paved surfaces. The slab thickness can vary slightly because of the riven, split-face working.

Honed C600

A very fine honed finish with a C600 grit — the level surface shows a clear colour intensity with barely visible honing marks, almost like polished depth in a matt effect. Acid-resistant and scratch-resistant, more maintenance-intensive than polished. An elegant matt alternative for high-quality exposed surfaces.

Care & fabrication

Oppdal Quarzit can be cleaned and cared for without complication. For interior surfaces and finely worked finishes we recommend a sealing treatment; outdoors it is optional depending on use. Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaners or clear water, and depending on the finish also with a suitable brushing technique. You should avoid oil-bearing care coatings, unnecessarily aggressive chemicals and the wrong cleaning methods on textured surfaces.

Yes, very much so. The low water absorption, the high strength and the frost resistance make Oppdal Quarzit a strong material for terraces, stairs, paving and façades.

Oppdal Quarzit or a grey granite?

Oppdal Quarzit often appears somewhat more natural and more layered, grey granite mostly more compact and more granular. Technically both are strong; in design terms Oppdal often has the calmer, more Nordic effect.

Is Oppdal Quarzit suitable for kitchen worktops?

Yes, that is possible in principle. In practice the stone is known above all as an external and floor material, but it can also be used sensibly in interior fit-out where the desired image suits.
