About Piedra Paloma

Piedra Paloma lives from brightness and calm. The colour moves within a very light, whitish to gently broken tone and thus appears friendly, light and Mediterranean. On larger surfaces in particular, a very calm background emerges that does not overlay architecture but carries it. At ROSSITTIS we stock Piedra Paloma for projects looking for a light, building-related stone with a soft presence.

The stone comes from Spain, from a quarry near Pedrera in the province of Seville. Petrographically it is a limestone, but in the market the material runs in the marble group, because it is used and designed with in a similar way. What matters here is the frank technical classification: Piedra Paloma is not a dense hard stone but a light carbonate material with a markedly more open structure.

Finishes

Piedra Paloma is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish for marble and limestone — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced depth to the veining. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be matte-gloss in places. Acid-sensitive — wine, lemon and vinegar leave etch marks after prolonged contact.

Honed C220

A matt appearance created by fine honing with C220 grit — the level surface looks calm, with a somewhat more intense colour effect than C120; light honing marks are possible. More maintenance-intensive than polished, but more scratch-resistant and matt-elegant — a popular choice for modern floors and wall claddings.

Care & fabrication

You should clean and care for Piedra Paloma regularly, because the material is more open-pored than many denser limestones or marbles. A good sealer is very important for floors, external surfaces and pool areas. Clean with pH-neutral natural stone cleaners and remove soiling early. You should avoid acidic cleaners, standing stains and unsuitable film-forming care products.
