About Pietra Castello

Pietra Castello works through a warm ground tone shifting towards light brown and beige, through which fine sedimentary lines and occasional light veins run. The slab image is even and elegant — not an expressive play of veins, but a calm, Mediterranean quality with restrained movement. It is precisely this legibility that makes the stone interesting for classical interior architecture, bathrooms, wall claddings, large floor surfaces, stairs and prestige interior fit-outs — wherever Italian elegance and warm brightness are called for.

Suitability by application

Care & fabrication

Pietra Castello is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the material surface — visible as matt shadows or a loss of gloss.

For all applications, a sealing treatment based on silane or polysiloxane is mandatory. It prevents the penetration of water, oil and dyestuffs and reduces the formation of stains — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. We recommend refreshing the sealing treatment every 1-2 years.

Day-to-day care is carried out with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid vinegar-based cleaners, cement film removers, acidic sanitary cleaners and strongly alkaline agents. Wine, coffee, oil, lemon and cosmetic products should not be left to act on the material surface for long.

For kitchen worktops, Pietra Castello is only conditionally suitable — acids from everyday cooking can leave a visible patina.

For permanently weathered external surfaces the material is only conditionally suitable. Indoors it is stable over the long term with proper care.

Is Pietra Castello suitable for the kitchen?

With reservations. As an acid-sensitive limestone it works only where patina is accepted, sealing is consistent and acids are removed immediately. For carefree light kitchen worktops we recommend a warm-toned quartzite.

Pietra Castello or Crema Marfil — which suits better?

Both are polishable Mediterranean limestones with a similar care requirement. Because of its brown-beige ground tone, Pietra Castello appears somewhat earthier and calmer, Crema Marfil lighter and creamier. For modern Italian interiors with a warm earth-tone palette, Pietra Castello is the better choice.
