About Porto Rosa

Porto Rosa is not a quiet stone. The material shows a dark to black base image broken up by pink and white vein or crystal zones. It is precisely this contrast that makes the stone so exciting: it combines the presence of a black natural stone with the warmth of pink mineral areas. On kitchen worktops, wall surfaces, stairs and in bathrooms, Porto Rosa therefore looks considerably more expressive than a homogeneous black granite. Anyone looking for strong natural stone images gets a very distinctive solution here.

The stone comes from Brazil and is traded as granite. It is planned into projects on exactly that basis: as a robust dark hard rock with decorative contrast figuring. The geological description places the material more precisely as a migmatitic stone, but in everyday trade its role as granite is what counts. Compared with Black Cosmic, Porto Rosa is richer in contrast and more colourful; compared with Belvedere it is less gold-accented and more crystalline in expression.

Finishes

Porto Rosa is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Satin-honed

The satin surface is created by brushing, which selectively removes softer minerals and gives the surface a slight depth. A matte appearance with subtle light reflection and a warm feel to the touch. Easy to maintain, insensitive to scratches and suited to everyday use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.

Care & fabrication

Porto Rosa should be impregnated after laying, especially on kitchen worktops and dark polished surfaces. The water absorption of 0.14 % is low, but an impregnation nevertheless makes cleaning and care considerably easier.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, water and a soft cloth are sufficient. On dark surfaces, water, grease and limescale residue should not be allowed to dry on, so that the contrast stays clear.

Avoid abrasive pads and aggressive specialist chemicals not approved for natural stone. Coffee, oil, wine and coloured foods should be removed promptly from worktops.

Outdoors, regular cleaning, good drainage and the right finish are important. Technically the stone is robust, but visually, high-contrast dark surfaces react more sensitively to neglect.
