About Silk Georgette Light

Silk Georgette Light owes its name to its look: a warm, cream-white to pale beige ground tone through which fine, slightly beige-grey vein lines flow — like the folds of a fine silk fabric. The slab looks calm and elegant, almost textile, with a subtle direction of movement that reads as very domestic across large surfaces. It is precisely this stillness that makes the stone interesting for modern bathrooms, pale wall claddings, bookmatch applications and prestige interior surfaces in which brightness and calm are meant to be the main motif.

Care & fabrication

Silk Georgette Light is an acid-sensitive limestone. Wine, lemon juice, vinegar, cola, sanitary cleaners or descalers leave etch marks on the polished surface — visible as dull shadows or a loss of gloss. With a stone this pale, such changes are particularly conspicuous.

For all applications — wall, floor, vanity top, worktop — a silane- or polysiloxane-based impregnation is mandatory. It prevents the penetration of water, oil and dyes and reduces staining — but it does not remove the acid sensitivity. On polished surfaces we recommend refreshing the impregnation every 1-2 years.

Day-to-day care is done with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid vinegar-based cleaners, cement haze removers, acidic sanitary cleaners and strongly alkaline products. Wine, coffee, oil, lemon juice or cosmetic products should not be left to act on polished surfaces for long — wipe them off immediately and rinse with clear water.

For kitchens Silk Georgette Light is not a classic everyday stone: acids from everyday cooking and intensive cleaning routines can leave a visible patina. Anyone who loves the look of the material but needs a carefree kitchen should choose a pale quartzite.

For permanently weather-exposed exterior surfaces Silk Georgette Light is not suitable. Indoors the material is stable over the long term with proper care.

Frequently asked questions

Is Silk Georgette Light suitable for the kitchen?

With reservations. Silk Georgette Light is an acid-sensitive limestone — as a kitchen worktop it works only with an accepted patina, consistent impregnation and the immediate removal of acids. For carefree pale kitchen worktops we recommend a pale quartzite such as Chantilly.

Which surface finishes are available for Silk Georgette Light?

The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Where does Silk Georgette Light come from?

Silk Georgette Light comes from Chinese deposits. Characteristic is the combination of a cream-white to pale beige ground tone with fine, flowing vein lines — a silky, almost textile character.

How do I clean and care for Silk Georgette Light?

Impregnation is mandatory. Day-to-day care with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners. Wipe off wine, coffee, oil or lemon juice immediately — do not let them act.

Is Silk Georgette Light frost-resistant and suitable for exterior use?

For permanently weather-exposed exterior surfaces Silk Georgette Light is not suitable — as a limestone the material reacts sensitively to de-icing salt, freeze-thaw cycles and acidic precipitation. Indoors it is clearly the better choice.

Silk Georgette Light or white marble — which fits better?

Both have similar care requirements. With its silky vein lines, Silk Georgette Light looks warmer and calmer than a classic Carrara marble with its more pronounced grey veins. Anyone looking for a calm, almost textile brightness is right with Silk Georgette Light.

What does Silk Georgette Light cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
