Taj Mahal commercial is the commercial grade of the famous Brazilian quartzite Taj Mahal from Ceará — a Precambrian quartzite of 90–95 per cent quartz with a warm cream-white ground colour and golden brown veins of movement. High-strength, frost-resistant and acid-resistant — suitable for kitchen worktops, bar counters, wall claddings, floor areas, stairs and prestige interiors.
Taj Mahal commercial is the commercial standard grade of the famous Brazilian quartzite Taj Mahal — by far the best-known Brazilian quartzite name in the European market. Characteristic is a warm cream-white to pale beige ground colour, run through by golden brown, warm golden or honey-coloured veins of movement in flowing, cloudy runs. The sericite content gives polished surfaces a fine mineral shimmer. At ROSSITTIS we stock Taj Mahal commercial for kitchen worktops, cooking islands, bar counters, vanity tops, wall claddings, floor areas, stairs and project-specific special fabrication where a Calacatta marble character in quartzite quality is wanted.
Geologically, Taj Mahal commercial is a Precambrian quartzite from the quarrying regions around Fortaleza in the state of Ceará in north-eastern Brazil. Mineralogy confirmed by DNSA: 90–95 per cent quartz, 5–10 per cent sericite. “Commercial” is the slab quality class — the standard grade with good but unselected slab quality (Premium and Select grades show calmer or more dramatic veining).
Technical values: bulk density 2,700 kg/m³, compressive strength 156.6 MPa, flexural strength 15.8 MPa, water absorption 0.14 per cent, frost resistance confirmed to UNE EN 1341. Because of the sericite content, Taj Mahal shows a moderate acid sensitivity — spilled acids (wine, lemon juice) should be taken up promptly and acidic cleaners are to be avoided. Compared with classic Calacatta marble, Taj Mahal commercial is considerably harder, more frost-resistant and easier to look after in everyday kitchen use.
At ROSSITTIS, Taj Mahal commercial is available as a raw slab (random-size slab), as a floor tile, as a tread and riser, as a window sill, as a skirting, as a wall facing and as a project-specific cut to size; likewise as a kitchen worktop, bar counter and vanity top. The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block further down.
Our honest assessment: Taj Mahal commercial is a first-rate choice for projects looking for a Calacatta marble look in quartzite quality — the standard grade with good value for money within the Taj Mahal family. For premium grades with dramatic veining, Taj Mahal Premium or Taj Mahal Genius are the next step up.

Taj Mahal commercial is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.
Polished
Polishing is the most classic finish for quartzite — a glossy surface with the highest possible colour intensity and a pronounced sense of depth. Depending on the mineral composition, the effect can be satin-gloss in places. As a silicate rock it is fully acid-resistant and scratch-hard — ideal for kitchen worktops and feature surfaces.
Satin-honed
The surface is brushed — softer minerals are removed in a targeted way, creating a slight depth and a matt appearance. Veined quartzites gain a special character in this way. Acid-resistant and scratch-resistant, easy to care for in daily use — a popular alternative to a polish in modern kitchens and living spaces.
Care & fabrication
As a Brazilian quartzite, Taj Mahal commercial can be looked after without difficulty. At a water absorption of only 0.14 per cent it is very dense and stain-resistant. A silane- or polysiloxane-based impregnation is recommended directly after installation. Daily cleaning with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Important: because of the sericite content there is a moderate acid sensitivity — take up spilled acids promptly and avoid acidic cleaners. Frost-resistant outdoors (best under cover). Refresh the impregnation every three to five years.
Frequently asked questions
What does “commercial” mean with Taj Mahal?
“Commercial” is the slab quality class — the standard grade with good but unselected slab quality. Premium and Select grades show calmer or more dramatic veining.
Is Taj Mahal really a quartzite or a marble?
Petrographically Taj Mahal is a quartzite (confirmed by DNSA: 90–95 % quartz, 5–10 % sericite). Its marble-like look is a visual resemblance — geologically and technically it is a quartzite, considerably harder and more frost-resistant than genuine marble.
Which technical values does Taj Mahal commercial have?
Bulk density 2,700 kg/m³, compressive strength 156.6 MPa, flexural strength 15.8 MPa, water absorption 0.14 %, frost-resistant to UNE EN 1341.
Is Taj Mahal commercial suitable for kitchen worktops?
Very much so. As a quartzite it is everyday-capable for cooking and water contact. Because of the sericite content there is a moderate acid sensitivity — take up spilled acids promptly.
Taj Mahal commercial or Calacatta marble — which fits better?
Both deliver the Calacatta look. Calacatta marble has random geological veining with a genuine marble patina, but is strongly acid-sensitive. Taj Mahal commercial offers a very similar look in quartzite quality — considerably harder, more frost-resistant and easier to look after in everyday kitchen use.
Where is Taj Mahal quarried?
Taj Mahal comes from the quarrying regions around Fortaleza in the state of Ceará in north-eastern Brazil — confirmed by DNSA under entries #6254 and #6329.
How do I clean and care for Taj Mahal commercial?
Day-to-day care with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. A silane-based impregnation. Avoid acidic cleaners. Refresh every three to five years.
What does Taj Mahal commercial cost?
The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
