About Azul Ellora

Azul Ellora is an Indian granite from the southern Indian plutonic complexes — probably from the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh, the same region from which many other Indian premium granites are won.

Geologically this is a classic acidic plutonic rock (granite) with a characteristic plagioclase-quartz-feldspar composition and proportions of mafic minerals. The subtle blue tonality of Azul Ellora is a visual nuance that can arise in some Indian granites through specific plagioclase compositions (comparable to the famous Volga Blue, but markedly subtler).

Finishes

Azul Ellora is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Poliert

Azul Ellora is a dense granite with high compressive strength and complete acid, heat and frost resistance.

Daily cleaning: soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.

Do not use: concentrated acids, steel wool.

Sealing: advisable every 18–36 months.

Kitchen worktop: hot pans can be set down directly.

Repair: scratches in the polish can be evened out by professional re-polishing.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Azul Ellora come from?

From the southern Indian plutonic complexes — probably Tamil Nadu, Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh.

Is Azul Ellora really blue?

A subtle blue tonality — not a dramatic blue like Volga Blue or Azul Bahia. The blue character is a visual nuance of the plagioclase composition.

Is Azul Ellora suitable for the kitchen?

Yes, excellently. With a Mohs hardness of 6 the granite is scratch-resistant, acid-resistant and heat-resistant.

Which finishes are available?

The finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

How much material do you currently have in stock?

We currently carry 10 raw slabs of Azul Ellora in 20 mm thickness.
