Azul Ellora is an Indian granite with a classic bright white base tone, dramatically distributed deep black mineral phenocrysts and subtle blue-grey accents. Salt-and-pepper character with a distinctive tonality — a high-performance dimension stone with full acid, heat and frost resistance for kitchens, stairs and external façades.
Azul Ellora is an Indian granite from the southern Indian plutonic complexes — probably from the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh, the same region from which many other Indian premium granites are won.
Geologically this is a classic acidic plutonic rock (granite) with a characteristic plagioclase-quartz-feldspar composition and proportions of mafic minerals. The subtle blue tonality of Azul Ellora is a visual nuance that can arise in some Indian granites through specific plagioclase compositions (comparable to the famous Volga Blue, but markedly subtler).
In the slab image, Azul Ellora shows a pale creamy white base tone with classic salt-and-pepper speckling — powerfully distributed deep black mineral phenocrysts (biotite, amphibole) on the pale groundmass. In places, subtle blue-grey accents are visible, lending the tonality a distinctive depth. The speckling is medium-grained — more powerful than in finer salt-and-pepper granites such as Bianco Sardo, with pronounced mineralogical liveliness.
For the application this means: Azul Ellora is an excellent choice for kitchen worktops, islands, vanity tops, wall cladding, floor and wall tiles, stairs, window sills and façades. The pale salt-and-pepper tonality with blue accents harmonises with warm timber, black steel, brass and pared-back colour palettes.
Technically, Azul Ellora is a classic high-performance granite with a Mohs hardness of around 6, complete acid resistance, heat resistance and frost resistance.
At ROSSITTIS we currently carry Azul Ellora as 10 raw slabs in 20 mm thickness with a polished surface.
For anyone comparing Azul Ellora with other materials: stylistically close are other Indian salt-and-pepper granites such as Bianco Sardo (Sardinian), New Kashmir White, Dharmapuri White, Padang Grey and similar pale selections.
Our honest assessment: Azul Ellora is a practical choice for projects with a requirement for a robust classic salt-and-pepper granite with a distinctive blue tonality.

Finishes
Azul Ellora is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.
Poliert
Azul Ellora is a dense granite with high compressive strength and complete acid, heat and frost resistance.
Daily cleaning: soft microfibre cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner.
Do not use: concentrated acids, steel wool.
Sealing: advisable every 18–36 months.
Kitchen worktop: hot pans can be set down directly.
Repair: scratches in the polish can be evened out by professional re-polishing.
Frequently asked questions
Where does Azul Ellora come from?
From the southern Indian plutonic complexes — probably Tamil Nadu, Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh.
Is Azul Ellora really blue?
A subtle blue tonality — not a dramatic blue like Volga Blue or Azul Bahia. The blue character is a visual nuance of the plagioclase composition.
Is Azul Ellora suitable for the kitchen?
Yes, excellently. With a Mohs hardness of 6 the granite is scratch-resistant, acid-resistant and heat-resistant.
Which finishes are available?
The finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.
How much material do you currently have in stock?
We currently carry 10 raw slabs of Azul Ellora in 20 mm thickness.
