Granite from India

Rosso Perla India

Rosso Perla India is a classic Precambrian Indian red granite from Tumkur and Bangalore in Karnataka — also traded as Sato Red, Rosso Goa, Perla India or Goa Red Granite. Characteristic are warm red potassium feldspar phenocrysts in a matrix of dark biotite and pale quartz mineral fields. High-strength, frost-resistant and acid-resistant — suitable for floor areas, stairs, façades, exterior paving, kitchen worktops and prestige architectural applications.

About Rosso Perla India

Rosso Perla India is a classic Indian red granite from the quarrying regions around Tumkur and Bangalore in the southern Indian state of Karnataka — traded in the market under the main names SATO RED, ROSSO NADO, PERLA INDIA, ROSSO GOA and ROSSO PERLA INDIA. Characteristic is a warm red to pink-red overall effect with a coarse-grained porphyritic mineral texture — striking red to dark red potassium feldspar phenocrysts are embedded in a matrix of black biotite, white plagioclase and transparent quartz. The layering and orientation structure (banded or directional) gives the slab picture a subtle signature of movement. At ROSSITTIS we carry Rosso Perla India for floor areas, wall claddings, staircases, façade claddings, exterior paving, plinth details, pool surrounds, kitchen worktops, bar counters, vanity tops and project-specific bespoke work.

Finishes

Rosso Perla India is available in a range of finishes. The finish affects appearance, feel and the care it needs.

Polished

Polishing is the most classic finish in the hard stone segment — a mirror-smooth, high-gloss surface with the highest possible colour intensity and maximum depth effect in the mineral structure. As an acid-resistant silicate stone, polished granite is easy to care for and the first choice for kitchen worktops, wall claddings and prestigious exposed surfaces.

Care & fabrication

As an Indian red granite, Rosso Perla India is easy to care for and clean over the long term. With a water absorption of only 0.12–0.16 percent the material is among the dense hard rocks — stains accordingly form only rarely. An impregnation on a silane or polysiloxane basis after laying gives additional protection against strongly colouring substances such as red wine, coffee, oil and tomato sauce. Daily cleaning with a pH-neutral natural stone cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or mop. Avoid strongly alkaline deep cleaners, acidic products such as vinegar or lemon cleaners, and abrasive steel wool. Outdoors frost-resistant and tolerant of de-icing salt — rinse off de-icing salt residues in spring. Refresh the impregnation every three to five years.

Frequently asked questions

What other designations does Rosso Perla India carry?

In the market the material runs under numerous trade names: Rosso Perla India (main designation), Sato Red, Rosso Goa, Rosso Nado, Perla India, Goa Red Granite, Rosso Perla Granite, Perla India Granite and Red Porphery Granite. All refer to the same Indian red granite.

Where is Rosso Perla India quarried?

Rosso Perla India comes from the quarrying regions around Tumkur and Bangalore (also Shivaganga) in the southern Indian state of Karnataka — one of the most traditional and most productive granite-producing regions in India.

What technical values does Rosso Perla India have?

The following characteristic values are documented: bulk density 2,610–2,740 kg/m³, compressive strength 192–230 MPa (very high), flexural strength 18.6–21.6 MPa, water absorption 0.12–0.16 percent. Frost-resistant, acid-resistant and with a durably polishable exterior surface.

What does “porphyritic” mean, and why is the material partly called “Red Porphery”?

A porphyritic mineral texture means that larger mineral crystals (phenocrysts) are embedded in a finer-grained base matrix. With Rosso Perla India the striking red potassium feldspar phenocrysts are the characteristic feature — hence the English trade name “Red Porphery Granite” (an English spelling variant of porphyry).

Which finishes are there for Rosso Perla India?

The surface finishes available from stock are listed in the »Finishes« block on this page.

Is Rosso Perla India suitable for kitchen worktops?

Very much so. With a compressive strength of 192–230 MPa, a low water absorption of 0.12–0.16 percent and full acid resistance, the material is fit for everyday cooking and contact with water. Wine, lemon juice or vinegar leave no etch marks.

Rosso Perla India or Rosso Vanga — which suits better?

Both are classic red hard rocks. Rosso Vanga from Sweden is a gneiss with restrained foliation and a medium- to coarse-grained mineral structure. Rosso Perla India is an Indian granite with a pronounced porphyritic phenocryst structure and a stronger colour signature. Anyone looking for a classic Swedish building stone with a German tradition (for headstones, for instance) chooses Rosso Vanga; for an expressive porphyritic material signature with a warm red effect, Rosso Perla India is the more striking choice.

What does Rosso Perla India cost?

The price depends on the batch, thickness, surface finish and fabrication — with natural stone there is no serious flat rate per square metre. Business customers see prices once their B2B account is activated; private customers receive a complete quote through a fabricator near them.
