About Azul Valverde

Azul Valverde is one of those Portuguese limestones that have a strong presence despite a quiet figure. Its colouring ranges from blue-grey through graphite grey to slightly fossiliferous and cloudy structures. This makes the stone read as elegant without being washed out. In stairs, on facades, on floors or in high-grade bathroom and residential projects in particular, it produces a very precise, European natural stone effect.

The stone comes from the Alcanede area in Portugal and belongs geologically to the Jurassic limestones. Compared with warmer limestones, Azul Valverde reads as markedly cooler and more concentrated. Against Belgian bluestones it is often denser and calmer across the surface. That makes it interesting for architects looking for a blue limestone with a contemporary, high-grade effect.

Satiniert

Die Oberfläche wird gebürstet — weichere Minerale werden gezielt entfernt, es entsteht eine subtile Tiefe und mattes Erscheinungsbild. Besonders geaderte Kalksteine erhalten so eine charaktervolle Optik und Haptik. Die mattere Veredelung kaschiert kleine Ätzungen besser als poliert und ist alltagstauglicher für stark beanspruchte Innenflächen.

Geschliffen C220

Mattes Erscheinungsbild durch feinen Schliff mit Körnung C220 — die ebene Oberfläche wirkt ruhig mit etwas intensiverer Farbwirkung als C120, leichte Schleifspuren möglich. Pflegeintensiver als poliert, dafür kratzfester und matt-elegant — beliebte Wahl für moderne Bodenflächen und Wandverkleidungen.

Care & fabrication

Azul Valverde should be sealed carefully on floors, stairs, facades and in wet areas. That makes cleaning and care easier and reduces the uptake of moisture and staining agents.

For cleaning and care, pH-neutral natural stone cleaners, a soft cloth and as little standing water as possible are suitable. Acidic cleaners, descalers and aggressive bathroom chemicals are unsuitable for this limestone.

In kitchens, lemon juice, vinegar, wine and coffee should not be left to act for long. Anyone using Azul Valverde as a worktop should consciously allow for the higher care requirement compared with granite.

Outdoors, a matt or textured finish, a properly executed build-up and reliable drainage matter more than any specialist chemistry. That is how the stone stays coherent and load-bearing over the long term.
