Blue Fantasy

Geologically, petrographically this is a gneiss from the Precambrian Brazilian Shield — a metamorphic rock formed from igneous parent rocks by high pressure and high temperatures. In the stone trade, Blue Fantasy is traditionally carried as a granite, a convention established in the international market for high-strength exotic hard rocks. The anthracite-black groundmass consists predominantly of biotite- and amphibole-rich mafic components, embedded in a quartzitic-feldspathic matrix. The characteristic schiller effect — the blue-silver shimmering reflections in the feldspar minerals — arises from a special internal microstructure with nano-scale mineral interferences that reflect incoming light within a narrow wavelength range and so produce the blue sheen. This effect is mineralogically related to the famous labradorite and occurs only in specific feldspar components, which are found in particular concentration in hard rocks of the Precambrian shields of Brazil, Norway (larvikite/Blue Pearl) and Madagascar.

Visually, Blue Fantasy is shaped by an exceptionally dramatic, almost minerally glamorous material signature. Against a deep black to anthracite base tone, the characteristic blue-silver schiller feldspars shimmer, lighting up with varying intensity depending on the angle of light and lending the slab image an almost unreal depth. High-contrast white quartz and feldspar bands run through the dark groundmass, and occasional warm rust-red mineral accents (iron-oxide-discoloured feldspar components) complement the palette with warm notes. The structuring is directional — the metamorphic foliation of the rock produces a subtle direction of movement in the slab image. Slab-to-slab variation is moderate — the overall appearance in each delivery is reliable, while individual slabs show differences in schiller intensity and colour distribution.

Technically, Blue Fantasy behaves like a classic granite. The general properties of Brazilian movement gneisses are well documented: high compressive strength (typically 150 to 200 MPa), low water absorption (typically 0.1 to 0.3 %), high hardness, full frost and acid resistance. This combination of properties qualifies the stone without restriction for intensive internal and external applications including kitchen worktops, heavily walked floor surfaces, paving and façade cladding. Like all granites and gneisses, Blue Fantasy is largely resistant to household acids such as lemon juice, vinegar, wine and cola.

In interior fit-out, Blue Fantasy is a statement material for the highest design ambitions, where a dark, elegant, glamorous material effect is wanted. Classic applications are kitchen worktops in design kitchens seeking a dramatic blue-shimmering look, bar back panels and counter fronts, feature walls in living rooms, hotel lobbies and entrance areas, bathroom feature walls, table and console tops as statement furniture, and fireplace surrounds with a dramatic effect. The anthracite-black tonality with the blue-silver schiller accents harmonises particularly with dark timber in walnut, mahogany or oak, with brass, bronze, nickel and silver accents, with clear white and with muted black. Blue Fantasy unfolds its maximum effect in restrained, refined settings with dramatic lighting, in which the schiller reflections of the feldspars develop their full luminosity. Outdoors it is used as façade cladding, plinth panels, stairs, paving and entrance areas — the granite-typical frost and acid resistance qualify it without restriction for central European climate conditions.
